[Dusk cosplay] The Ink-Washed Vibe Under Hazy Jade - Image 1

Putting on this Hazy Jade outfit, I completed this set of shoots in front of a white backdrop. For the "Hazy Jade" outfit of the character Dusk, what I wanted to express the most was that scholarly temperament immersed in ink and paintings. The robe overall adopts a green-to-blue gradient color scheme, with light transparent gauze used at the collar and cuffs, and the layered folds allow even static images to generate a flowing sense of being blown by the wind. The red knot tied around the waist and the cyan jade pendant accessory are the finishing touches of the entire look, serving to brighten the colors amidst the simple and elegant base tone.

For props, I chose a brush and a painting scroll. This slightly complex accessory configuration is harder to hold steadily while taking photos than one might imagine; not only do you have to grip the brush handle, but you also have to let the scroll's straps fall naturally. After trying several different angles, I finally chose to hold the scroll horizontally in front of me, forming a scattered high-and-low composition with the brush, concentrating the visual focus on the dragon horns and translucent ear accessories on the head.

The wig was one of the styling difficulties; not only did I have to make the curved hair strands symmetrical on both sides, but I also had to make the cyan gradient at the hair ends look natural. Semi-translucent material was chosen for the dragon horns, which can reveal the internal texture under the illumination of light, echoing the eyeshadow around the eyes. During the shoot, I specially adjusted my gaze, hoping to look slightly lazy yet focused, matching this character's unique Chinese-style charm.

Withered branches and a red circular background were used in the set design. This minimalist combination conversely highlights the details on the character. The red of the background and the cyan of the clothes form complementary colors, ensuring the frame does not feel cluttered while presenting an artistic conception similar to the negative space (liubai) in traditional paintings. Shooting in such a scene allows one to calm down and feel this antique atmosphere.

The process from final makeup to shooting is both a recreation of the character setting and a personal challenge in costume design. The makeup maintained a clean and sharp clarity, with red eyeliner slightly upturned at the outer corners of the eyes to add a hint of pride to the gentle and moist undertone. The completeness of the overall costuming, makeup, and props was ultimately captured through the lens for this piece of Cosplay photography.
