These are convention photos taken at the IDO Anime Convention at the Beijing Exhibition Center, sharing the outfit styling and on-site photoshoot impressions for Tashkent from Azur Lane.
Let's first talk about the overall concept of this Anime convention outfit. A maid-style black crisscross high-waisted top is paired with safety shorts, wrapped in an oversized, soft white plush shawl, topped with a classic maid headdress featuring black lace and frills. For hair and makeup, I chose long straight light-purple hair, adding volume at the crown to give the headpiece more layered dimension. For colored contacts, I went with cool blue-gray lenses, which, combined with luminous, clear base makeup, aimed to capture the icy coolness of a northern girl.
The shoot took place near the second-floor corridor of the exhibition hall, utilizing European arched windows and classical chandeliers as backdrops. The photographer set up lighting gear in the front-quarter angle; the softbox lighting beautifully brought out the fluffy texture of the plush shawl and the crisp monochrome contrast. In a bustling convention environment, a white shawl easily catches dust or loses its pristine look, so grooming its fluffiness took considerable time before shooting. For the lower body, black pantyhose and pointed stiletto heels completed the look. Sitting on a black high stool with crossed legs and resting my chin in my hand created a composed posture that highlighted the leg lines and heel silhouette for this Black stockings convention photoshoot.
Standing in stiletto heels for half a day at a convention is indeed a test of stamina, especially with slim heels putting all the pressure on the balls of the feet. Fortunately, the Beijing Exhibition Center had the AC running well, so wearing long sleeves and a plush shawl indoors didn't feel overly hot, even offering pleasant warmth. With crowds walking by, the voluminous shawl could easily brush against display boards or passersby, so I had to stay mindful of posture and surroundings while shooting.
Regarding text disclaimers in the photos: because sleeveless cuts and leg exposure can sometimes invite misunderstandings, clear notes regarding safety shorts and positive artistic intent were added. Bringing 2D anime styling into real-world convention spaces often requires managing practicalities—preventing accidental exposure, avoiding slips, and body concealer. The reflective marble floor tiles added ambient reflections that made the stocking texture look even more natural.
The background chandeliers and distant photography studio lights created distinct foreground and background depth. Even with staff or visitors occasionally moving behind, the composition kept the subject sharp and prominent. The black coat on the floor was an extra layer taken off, which serendipitously broke up the foreground. The overall shooting process was very smooth, and the photographer guided poses from ideal angles. Convention photography often tests quick adaptation to dynamic, complex ambient lighting.
The most meticulous effort went into styling the wig and trimming the bangs to frame the face properly and evoke the character's ethereal lightness. Eye makeup remained clean and restrained, accentuating only the eyeliner and lashes. After sorting these photos, I wanted to document my thoughts on styling and photoshoot coordination. Every convention outing is an exploration of character interpretation and self-expression; being able to bring the characters we love into reality is deeply rewarding in itself.
