[Anjo Nala Cosplay] Lazy and Dangerous Snake Tail Look in Reverse: 1999

I've finally saved and posted this set of cosplay photos. Before shooting this set, I studied quite a few character references. This outfit indeed has many design highlights—a dark green velvet strapless top stitched onto a lotus-root pink skirt, paired with pearl tassels and extra-long tassels on the hem—which certainly took the tailor a lot of effort. When I received it, I noticed the satin had a lovely sheen that presented a gorgeous texture under the lighting. As for the wig, this deep purple curly wig needed to be styled with natural, fluffy waves, while the headpiece on top and the silver geometric hairpieces on the side had to be securely fastened; any large movements during the shoot could easily shift them, so the stylist stayed on set the entire time to keep an eye on them. For makeup, I opted for a vintage matte texture, emphasizing the eye contours and the saturation of the red lips. Since relatively strong hard light was used on site, the base makeup had to be applied very smoothly, and the heavier tones of blush and contouring needed to be slightly intensified; otherwise, the face could easily look flat under bright lights. What gave us the biggest headache this time was actually the large snake tail prop—not only was it heavy, but placing it naturally without looking stiff in the frame posed quite a challenge. After testing and adjusting many times with the photographer on site, we finally discovered that draping it over the retro bar counter or treating it as an extension of the background perfectly echoed the lazy and dangerous aura of the scene. The retro bar counter venue provided plenty of atmosphere; the full row of liquor bottles in the background along with the vintage table lamp set a warm color tone for the photos. To prevent the background from appearing too cluttered during the shoot, we used wide apertures to blur the background, allowing the light halos to disperse naturally and highlight the subject. We also experimented with different angles throughout the shoot; whether it was the tipsy feel of sitting at the retro bar counter holding a wine glass, the elegance of holding a cane, or the playful vibe of raising my legs while lying flat, all were captured wonderfully in the final images. A dramatic character like this demands strong physical expressiveness, requiring the character's confidence and mystery to radiate from the inside out. Cosplaying a character with fantasy elements involves a tedious prep process, but seeing the final retro, luxurious visual effect brings a deep sense of accomplishment. During editing, I discussed with the photographer to preserve the warm ambient light as much as possible while brightening my skin tone, emphasizing the color contrast between the dark green top and pink skirt. The tassels on the skirt provided wonderful dynamic movement when walking; although taking care to prevent the tassels from tangling took extra effort during the shoot, getting the desired effect made it all worthwhile. Before doing this Anjo Nala cosplay, I was quite worried about failing to grasp the character's traits, since elements like a snake tail prop could easily look too harsh or rigid. Therefore, I deliberately chose softer, curvier poses—such as lying casually on the retro bar counter paired with a sultry, lingering gaze—hoping to better match her aura of being seemingly lazy yet secretly dangerous. The photographer was also extremely patient this time, constantly searching for camera angles within the cramped bar space. Some angles required leaning across the bar counter while others were overhead shots; maintaining expression management throughout various tricky poses certainly tested my core strength. My most direct impression after wrapping up was that for shoots involving specific scenes and props, the more meticulous the preparation, the higher the output efficiency. The teamwork with the crew was also seamless this time—from hair and makeup to prop placement, every segment connected smoothly, yielding this satisfying set of photos.
