[Tingyun Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — Illusions and Folding Fan of the Foxian Kemonomimi Girl

When shooting this Tingyun cosplay photoshoot, my primary goal was to capture her elegant, composed, yet subtly secretive temperament. Starting with the wig styling, the dark long hair features her signature white highlights at the sideburns. Adjusting the hair flow and wave curls required multiple tweaks—adding fluffy subtle curls at the bottom paired with airy bangs along both sides of the forehead to flatter face contours while adding voluminous fullness.

The pair of black animal ears atop my head served as a core prop for this kemonomimi girl look. Choosing a style lined with soft white fluff created striking color contrast while softening ear contours naturally. The hair accessories incorporated small gold pieces and red tassels—though subtle in frame, these vibrant accents established a harmonious visual balance against dark hair.

Moving down, the costume featured black fabric adorned with golden patterns, styled with an off-the-shoulder neckline to showcase collarbones and necklines clearly on camera. Dark gold patterns and red piping paired with voluminous sleeves radiated strong Eastern classical elegance. To align with character lore, I crafted special makeup under the collarbone featuring red gradient blushes over a white base. Blending this mark seamlessly into the foundation created a soft watercolor wash from afar while retaining sharp line details up close, requiring dedicated edge-blending effort during makeup application.

Photography props included a red-and-white folding fan ornament and a wristband strung with small gold bells. Opening the folding fan revealed structured geometric block shapes, enhancing prop dimension and substantiality. Holding the fan allowed the photographer to capture rich color resonance between the fan surface and red dress accents. The bells introduced motion blur effects during slight movements, leaving acoustic imagination within static frames.

Lighting was strictly calibrated to neutral-warm tones throughout the shoot. Hanging bamboo blinds and yellow calligraphy drapes in the background acquired a natural antique richness under warm lamps. A white floral paper umbrella anchored at the upper left added spatial depth, while foreground artificial flowers and corner wooden utensils in the dimly lit setting achieved a lush yet clutter-free composition.

I adjusted several poses intentionally during the session—tilting my head slightly sideways or casting my gaze just below the camera lens while holding props. This allowed my green contacts to project a calm, aloof, yet slightly analytical gaze. Keeping facial expressions relaxed let my eyes convey emotional narrative, which fit the subtle mystery of this piece far better than forced expressions.

Lighting angles presented set challenges during shooting. Initial test shots revealed that focusing key light too heavily on my face dulled the golden embroidery on my dress. We shifted toward a rim lighting setup by pulling warm backlights slightly behind, which caught the edge contours of hair strands and instantly elevated both wig and outfit textures. Reviewing multiple test sets before locking in light positions was essential for this ancient style shooting setup.

This photoshoot was more than putting on a costume; it was about experiencing the character's mindset within a specific scene. Rather than chasing intense visual shock, we chose understated, gentle camera language. Holding the folding fan lightly with lowered eyes under soft warm lighting represents my personal interpretation of this Honkai: Star Rail character. Skipping heavy post-processing effects and relying on makeup, props, and live studio lighting built an authentic atmosphere that fulfilled our vision completely.
