[Ruan Mei cosplay] The Cool Plum Blossom Fragrance in Honkai: Star Rail

Today's shoot features Ruan Mei from Honkai: Star Rail, dressed in a blue-and-white dress outfit. The black wig with cyan-blue gradient ends is paired with exquisite hair ornaments, alongside a pink ribbon bow and emerald pendant around her neck. From the lace off-the-shoulder design to the blue-gold embroidered paneled mini skirt, down to the asymmetrical gloves—a short white one and a long blue one—every detail was carefully considered. In particular, the pearl garter dangling at the thigh, combined with the blue-green high heels on her feet, preserves the character's cool demeanor while adding a touch of classic, elegant allure.

For props, the photographer provided two very representative items: a round blue-and-gold string instrument adorned with cloud patterns and floral motifs on the body and pink floral inlay on the headstock; and a light-colored round fan painted with red plum blossoms. During the shoot, I needed my hand movements to appear natural and relaxed—whether holding the instrument with dignified grace or holding the fan with fluid agility—all aligning with her effortless yet in-control aura.

The scene was set up on a Chinese traditional solid wood daybed lined with a soft white plush rug, against a backdrop of scattered plum blossom branches and softly glowing paper lanterns. These elements constructed a frame steeped in Oriental classical charm. The reclining posture on the daybed in the third photo not only highlights the leg line through the high-slit skirt but also perfectly fits her trademark lazy, detached serenity.

As for makeup and styling, to fit the character, I drew a thin cyan-blue eyeliner at the outer corners of my eyes, paired with light-colored contact lenses, giving my gaze a cold allure without losing softness. For the lips, I selected a matte light tone, while pursuing a clean, crystal-clear base makeup to maximize the three-dimensional depth of my facial features. The hair bun and layered bangs softly contoured my face, keeping the visual focus on the cool, distant temperament of the face.

During shooting, the lighting team set up two distinct light sources: the key light softly illuminated my face and neck, while the side rim light outlined the edges of the skirt lace and long hair. This lighting configuration brought every layer of 3D depth vividly to life. When holding the blue-gold string instrument, I spent a long time finding the right point of leverage—aiming for natural posture while preventing the instrument from blocking the layered white sheer fabric across my chest, creating an artistic touch through slightly bent wrists and gentle finger grips.

I like discussing poses with the photographer before snapping the shot. The pose holding the round fan in the second photo is very refined—a fingertip lightly touching near the forehead paired with a slightly tilted head perfectly captured an inadvertent sense of relaxation. The reclining pose in photo three was a greater test of core balance, requiring the legs to relax completely so the pearl garter draped along the natural curves of the skin, matching the color harmony between the blue gloves and blue-green shoes to achieve a balanced visual weight and beauty.

Looking back at this Client Photo Showcase shoot, though preparations were not overly lengthy, the costume, props, and scene setup together helped the final product present a wonderful texture. Character designs in Honkai: Star Rail have always struck a unique balance between traditional style and sci-fi, and Ruan Mei takes classical aesthetics to its peak. Wearing this outfit, standing amidst the interwoven scenery of paper lanterns and plum blossoms, I truly felt the quiet, cool, and graceful aura of this character. It felt as if I were stepping into her tranquil world, where every frame serves as the finest interpretation of the fusion between Oriental aesthetics and ACG ambiance.
