I prepared this Usada Pekora Bunny girl look for quite a while before heading out, making several tweaks to both the garment tailoring and wig styling to deliver the best possible result at the expo. The outer robe was crafted from chiffon with subtle translucency, creating an airy, sheer effect under indoor lighting; the ruffled pleats along the cuffs and collar were deliberately ironed to guarantee crisp, three-dimensional definition on camera. Wearing it loosely draped off the arms established a layered contrast between the loose exterior and fitted interior, highlighting the black bikini with white trim underneath. The blue satin bow at the neckline and the white choker around the neck were essential details for reinforcing the Bunny girl motif, giving the upper body a richer visual palette.
The lower white ruffled shorts are actually part of a one-piece bodysuit—a cut that provided extra peace of mind when moving and posing across the convention floor by preventing wardrobe slips, while the gentle flare of the ruffles flatteringly softened the hip line. The blue floral embroidery on the side was custom-ordered specifically to echo the hair color. For the wig, I trimmed the bangs and set the twintail curves with hairspray; although the hall's overhead lighting was rather flat, the bright blue strands caught the reflections nicely, preventing the hair from looking dull. In terms of makeup, a reddish eyeshadow palette was paired with blue contact lenses to balance the cool undertones of the blue hair, making the eyes pop on camera while keeping facial features sharply defined even in wide shots.
When shooting this set, I stood on a white cylindrical display platform at the center of the hall, with an industrial steel-frame truss ceiling in the background. Because high-ceiling indoor spaces can be notoriously tough to light, I leaned into available ambient light and had the photographer blur the background to draw all visual focus straight back to the subject. To coordinate with the speech bubbles added in post-production, the posing in the first standing shot primarily showcased the garment's overall drape, whereas lifting one leg in the second shot highlighted leg contours. The over-the-knee Black stockings feature white double stripes at the cuffs, which, paired with a black leather thigh garter and white lace strap on the thigh, created clean leading lines toward the 'absolute territory' during the leg lift. Standing barefoot on the white platform also forged a sharp tonal contrast with the Black stockings, adding breathing room to the composition.
Scouting frames amidst the chaotic environment of a convention and using simple geometric set pieces to anchor the composition allows the subject to detach cleanly from the background, resulting in a crisp, polished image. This ensemble drew plenty of photographers' lenses on-site, with many praising the striking contrast between Black stockings and white ruffled trims. Convention shoots truly test your stamina and composure—to preserve the outfit's pristine fit, I barely took large sips of water and had to stay constantly mindful of the wig and bunny ears. Seeing the final results, however, made every ounce of preparation and effort entirely worthwhile.
