Today at the Firefly ACG Expo Day 3, this cat-ear maid outfit version of Rem finally made its debut. I'm portraying Rem from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- this time; wanting to try a slightly different style, I specifically chose the version featuring cat ears and a fluffy blue tail. Even though the convention venue had plenty of AC, wearing these multi-layered skirts along with a heavy wig meant working up a sweat after walking around all day. To keep my makeup intact, I carried setting spray and oil-blotting sheets, and intentionally intensified the red eyeshadow blending to authentically replicate the character's traits. For the base, I selected a long-wear foundation combined with powder baking to maintain a translucent glow even when sweating.

Styling the wig is a craft in itself. To maintain this light blue short hair look, I spent quite a bit of time the night before using hair wax to texture the layers, and the pink ribbon hair accessory on the wig was hand-bent by myself so it would hold a three-dimensional shape before the camera. The garment is richly detailed; aside from the classic black-and-white maid dress, it features abundant lace edging and waist-cinching designs. The arc of the skirt fans out gorgeously when spinning or lifting the hem, which, when paired with White stockings and chunky platform leather shoes, harmonizes the overall visual proportions. Wearing such a multi-layered dress comes with quite a tight waist-cincher constraint, so I would loosen it slightly during breaks to ensure smooth breathing.

Taking photos at a convention floor truly tests stamina and focus. To capture great lighting and shadows, we tried to avoid the heavily crowded main aisles, opting instead for outdoor areas near glass curtain walls or shaded by trees. The photographer was fantastic at directing poses; whether it was the playful vibe of holding the skirt hem with both hands or a cat-paw-mimicking over-the-shoulder glance, fine-tuning angles through continuous test shots was essential. White stockings and platform shoes easily pick up dust when walking outdoors for extended periods, so before every take, I had to tidy up the skirt hem and leg strap decorations to keep the frame pristine. Sometimes, waiting for a moment without passersby in the shot meant holding the exact same posture for a long time, which posed a substantial challenge to posture and expression management.

At this convention, I crossed paths with many friends who share a love for this work, and we exchanged plenty of insights regarding costume crafting and makeup styling. Many people asked me how to keep the wig from getting frizzy; the secret actually lies in washing it with cold water and letting it air dry, and storing it on a wig stand when not in use. Chatting with everyone in the lounge area and complementing each other's styling created an utterly amazing atmosphere. Although my feet were sore by the end of the day and my shoulders stiff from carrying the prop bag, seeing those atmospheric Convention photos on the camera made all the preparations feel completely worthwhile. Conventions are places like this—everyone gathers because of a shared passion, wearing their affection for characters on themselves to preserve these wonderful moments. If time permits in the future, I might consider portraying other versions of this set or exploring alternative photography styles.
