When shooting this Genshin Impact Shenhe cosplay Convention photo set, the afternoon sunlight beamed down directly, and foot traffic at the convention was immense. To find a background free from wandering passersby, we circled the open space next to the venue several times before the photographer settled on a spot utilizing light reflected from the building. Outside of studio shoots, the greatest hurdle for a Convention photo is lighting control. The canopy of this blue umbrella had wonderful translucency, blocking harsh direct glare while still requiring continuous angle adjustments to prevent excessive reflections. The white fur collar easily overexposed under the bright sun, whereas the dark fabric laced with gold threads absorbed light, demanding frequent checks of the camera display to fine-tune parameters.
For makeup, reddish-brown tones were deepened around the eyes to match Shenhe's crisp, detached gaze. The wig's bangs are fairly long, so when draping over the right eye, care was taken not to completely obstruct my line of sight. We shot five different angles in this series, experimenting with front close-ups, side profiles, and full-body frames. The red cords on my hands, blue tassels, and gold embroidery on the costume are exquisitely detailed; to showcase these elements fully, we ultimately selected two waist-up shots and one full-body composition.
Wearing this outfit featuring thigh-high Stockings paired with thigh metal rings felt quite breezy while moving around outdoors, but to maintain the character's poise, constant vigilance was needed regarding umbrella gestures and skirt placement. There were many bystanders around during the shoot; being situated amidst the crowd resonated perfectly with the mood of 'searching for you amidst the crowd' mentioned in the description. Facing onlookers and the photographer's lens in a crowd demands quickly getting into character, sustaining an aloof demeanor and upright posture. Though exhausting after a full day of shooting, the resulting Convention photos turned out fantastic, especially a few backlit frames where light caught the translucent edges of the fur collar, naturally accentuating the character's aloof elegance.
