[Fugue Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: To My Benefactor, Arriving for Our Promise Today

When taking on the photoshoot project for Fugue from Honkai: Star Rail, I felt both excited and anxious. Capturing that languid, mysterious aura unique to a fox spirit, blended with a hint of playful teasing, is genuinely challenging. In the end, we selected a set featuring a rich Japanese-style garden paired with fluttering cherry blossom props to faithfully match the character's distinct background lore.

Preparing the costume this time was exceptionally elaborate. The outfit extensively uses a classic color scheme of red, black, and gold. The outer robe features a subtly lustrous fabric, with wide, sweeping sleeves that flow gracefully while walking. The golden metallic flower ornaments on the shoulders and the structured collar add substantial presence and grandeur to the look. What satisfied me most was the wide blue-and-white sash around the waist—not only does it balance the upper and lower body proportions visually, but it also injects a vibrant splash of color into the predominantly dark palette. For the pink lotus-shaped inner cuffs, the material was carefully chosen through multiple trials to be both crisp and fluid. It took prolonged tailoring adjustments to ensure the fit was flattering without appearing bulky.

Next were the wig and animal ears. The hair color adopts a gradient from black and dark red to wine red; styling such an intricate gradient of intertwined tones truly tests one's wig-crafting skills. To give the hair strands more depth and texture, I thinned and layered the wig repeatedly myself. For the black plush animal ears, pure white fluff was specifically chosen for the interior. The curvature of the ears couldn't be too rigid or upright, which would look stiff on camera, so I carefully shaped the internal support wire to keep them lively and perky at every turning angle.

That massive pink tail was undeniably the heavyweight highlight among the props. Thick and fluffy, moving around on set felt like having a soft cloud trailing behind me. To showcase its plush volume without looking heavy on camera, I deliberately paired it with seated, crouching, or side-profile poses to maximize the aesthetic appeal of the tail. The prepared folding fan and bell staff also provided the perfect finishing touches. The folding fan served as a handy dynamic prop—whether half-covering the face or fanning out with an outstretched arm, it heightened the visual tension of the composition. Meanwhile, holding the tasseled staff required a slightly haughty, composed posture to capture that commanding, disdainful elegance.

The wooden Japanese-style corridor, stone lanterns, and hanging golden strip lighting fixtures of the venue were ideal for building a dreamlike atmosphere. I had seamless teamwork with photographer @三坑妹摄知梦里, who excels at capturing expressions under soft lighting. The frontal-side fill light against a dark background highlighted the translucent texture of fair skin, while background golden bokehs blurred through a wide aperture looked exceptionally enchanting. The falling cherry blossom effects were mainly achieved by tossing real petals on set and timing the shutter, followed by full post-production polishing in which I participated—fine-tuning ambient saturation and petal layering so the blurred foreground petals and sharply focused subject created a powerful depth of field. This interplay of reality and illusion fits the fateful, tragic atmosphere of the character's storyline perfectly. The final images completely achieved my vision, making for a deeply immersive and rewarding cosplay photoshoot experience.
