The finished photos from this TFP photoshoot are finally here, featuring Wang Zhaojun from Honor of Kings. From deciding to cosplay this character, preparation took nearly a month back and forth. Because the outfit is adorned with heavy faux fur and silver metal accessories, storage and transportation required extra caution to keep them fluffy and three-dimensional, fearing any distortion would affect the final on-camera look.
For makeup styling, I wore blue colored contacts, and the blue snowflake marking on my forehead was painted stroke by stroke referencing the character art. Pairing this ice-blue long hair with the white fur collar instantly gave my aura a cold, crisp edge, feeling completely in tune with the character. It happened to snow on the day of the shoot; though it was artificial snow, combined with the wooden cabin in the background and the Christmas tree adorned with string lights, the winter atmosphere was remarkably intense.
Shooting in sub-zero temperatures genuinely tested my willpower, but the photographer was incredibly patient. Throughout the shoot, we continuously adjusted angles, using the flash and warm background lighting to create a warm-and-cool contrast, giving the figure greater three-dimensional depth. We tried many poses in the snow, such as folding hands over the chest or casting a distant gaze toward the horizon, which, complemented by drifting snowflakes, looked breathtakingly aesthetic. Standing in the snow for a long time in thigh-high Stockings made my feet freeze stiff, but for the sake of the final visual effect, I endured and strove to maintain a relaxed expression.
People often talk about the core elements of portraiture, and this shoot gave me a deep understanding of them. Beyond facial features, light and shadow, costume textures, and on-site ambiance often dictate the quality of the work. The silver ornaments and lustrous fabrics of this outfit had magnificent texture against the falling snow and glowing lights. Furthermore, cosplaying my signature hero brought a special emotion from within, consciously channeling the character's aloof and mysterious presence.
During post-processing, the photographer preserved many details showcasing fabric texture while refining the warm-and-cool color grading. This experience deepened my understanding of cosplay: it requires not just faithful costume, makeup, and props, but finding the right state of mind during shooting and building seamless synergy with the photographer to create great photos.
