It's Rei's birthday again! Today, I'd like to share some thoughts and insights from this Neon Genesis Evangelion-themed photoshoot.

I've lost count of how many times I've cosplayed Rei, but each time presents distinct challenges and new reflections. For this shoot, I picked a black maxi dress with Gothic Lolita elements—accented with Black stockings, white lace, and light blue ribbons. This contrasting aesthetic actually harmonizes wonderfully with her cool, aloof demeanor.

The shooting location was set along the streets of European-style red-brick architecture. The strong textural quality of this backdrop, combined with brilliant sunlight and sharp shadow lines cast on brick walls, grounded the complex lace patterns of the skirt to prevent the frame from looking cluttered. In this Cosplay photography session, the photographer used a wide-aperture lens to create heavy background blur, effectively drawing visual focus onto the subject and showcasing the outfit's rich details.

The corset design was honestly quite tough to wear; cinching the waistline took considerable effort before the shoot. The skirt was voluminous with white-trimmed underskirts, requiring careful walking on-site to avoid snagging on the ground. To highlight the leg silhouette, I specifically brought a black stick umbrella in the photos, using the motion of lifting the umbrella to elongate body lines while perching on tiptoes to find balance. The pose touching the hat brim was retaken many times—tilting the head slightly upward with a vacant, detached gaze was essential to capture her signature detached, emotionless aura.

In terms of styling, the light blue short hair required meticulous trimming. Blunt bangs easily stick to the face, requiring hairspray to set and maintain volume. Although the red eyeshadow was just a subtle accent, it stood out vividly in the sunlight, instantly anchoring the mood of the photos. While shooting on the street, passersby would occasionally look over, but being immersed in the role felt great.

I'm very satisfied with the overall atmosphere of this photo set. Since it coincides with her birthday, let's freeze this moment with these photos.
