This light blue dress paired with a wide-brimmed white hat immediately conveys the character's softness and airy lightness at first glance. The design inherently carries significant volume, especially with the outer tulle overskirt and the rigid hooped frame support structure, giving the entire hemline a sharply defined, three-dimensional silhouette. When actually wearing it, although this hoop skirt frame delivers ample puffiness, it poses quite a mobility challenge—especially when standing and turning, where one must constantly control center of gravity shifts to prevent the skirt from losing balance.
The hat's brim is very wide, trimmed with multiple layers of soft white lace and ruffled borders, while the light blue trailing streamers extending from the back serve as a visual highlight of this outfit. In an authentic outdoor setting, the slightest gust of wind sends the streamers fluttering, which, combined with the overall light blue palette, infuses the frame with dynamic energy. On the day of the shoot, we happened to catch a pleasant breeze; this just-right natural draft brought out a lively, organic breathability across the entire styling without relying on post-processing to artificially simulate wind, which is why I love this set of photos so much.
For the lower half, the white lace-trimmed thigh-high socks (lace socks) are a detail that harmonizes seamlessly with the overall tone. Peeking through the slits of the pale blue skirt, the white lace silhouette maintains color harmony while adding a delicate, agile touch against the sprawling expanse of the voluminous skirt. Under natural light, the outer semi-sheer tulle skirt subtly reveals the inner structural layers—a depth of layering that becomes especially prominent from low-angle perspectives.
Regarding hair and makeup, I chose low-saturation greyish-blue straight hair with blunt bangs this time, centering the overall soft aesthetic. The makeup leaned toward a sheer, natural finish, primarily illuminated by light green contact lenses and soft pink lips to balance the expansive white-and-blue palette so it wouldn't appear overly cool-toned. As an unreleased concept draft version, although this costume may lack some of the intricate details seen in later mass-produced versions, it holds a very unique charm in its visual cohesion and clean lines.
Arriving on-site for Day 2 of the Firefly ACG Expo, foot traffic inside and outside the hall was truly heavy. Navigating crowds with a hoop skirt of this scale required consciously anticipating distances from surrounding people to avoid bumping into passersby or snagging on backpack accessories. Fortunately, we chose a relatively open outdoor area for the shoot; the modern glass curtain wall in the background not only provided a clean, spacious compositional extension, but also softly bounced sky light onto the subject, creating exceptionally gentle, natural facial highlights.
During the shoot, the photographer opted for a slightly low-angle perspective. This framing not only highlighted the skirt's volume and skeletal frame, but also made my posture appear more poised and tall. In the moment of holding a folding fan to half-conceal my cheek, the viewer's gaze naturally concentrated on my eyes and face, creating an effective visual focus that blended the light blue primary hue with the cool tones of the surroundings.
Because the hemline of the dress is long and the frame itself carries weight, every slightly larger movement required readjusting the folds of the skirt. Between shutter bursts, our teamwork was seamless—quickly adjusting stances and wind angles allowed us to capture natural, relaxed expressions while keeping the garment within its intended silhouette. Although this brief creative sprint amidst a bustling convention was physically tiring, seeing how the final images achieved the desired expressiveness—both in costume fidelity and overall atmospheric vibe—felt immensely rewarding.
Under such intense outdoor lighting, the expansive blue-and-white silhouettes were illuminated brightly by the sun, with even the fine lace along the hat's edge and the delicate light-colored stitching on the skirt captured in crystal clarity. All in all, despite challenges in physical setup, the day was blessed with perfect weather and light, making it a thoroughly enjoyable cosplay photography experience.
