[Da Qiao Cosplay] Reflecting the Ebb and Flow of Tides: Capturing the Beauty of the Canyon in Taishan Gardens

The original intention of this shoot was to recreate that vibrant and elegant hero from Honor of Kings. The cosplayer @kk made full preparations, while I was in charge of the camera to capture these moments of light and shadow. The entire set was shot at a traditional Chinese garden location in Taishan outdoor photography; its stone bridges, pavilions, and wooden pillar structures matched the character's red-and-gold color scheme and traditional elements remarkably well.

First, let's talk about character makeup and styling. To stay true to the character's image, @kk chose a wig intertwined with auburn and chestnut shades, thoughtfully braiding it into two fluffy, thick plaits, paired with vibrant blue contact lenses that instantly brightened her gaze. The primary color tone of the outfit is a bright orange-red, centered on a giant heart-shaped chest ornament as the visual focal point, with a sky-blue inset bead echoing the spliced pattern on the garment to grab attention. In particular, the sheer chiffon skirt design is not only light and graceful, but also creates lovely dynamic movement under gentle breezes and waterfront environments.

We prepared three sets of props. The first is a red oil-paper umbrella, whose surface and edge tassels were perfectly suited for waterfront stone settings. The second is a white round fan adorned with red velvet flowers at the rim, which oozed gentle charm when leaning against indoor wooden railings. The third is that long-handled staff—its long black shaft paired with a magnificent golden head and a suspended blue orb felt very solid in hand. These props were mostly custom handcrafted, making them ideal for conveying the character's temperament.

Lighting on the day of the shoot was fantastic, with clear natural light. Whether standing beside a wooden pillar in backlighting to create a soft halo in Image 1, or sitting on waterfront rocks in Image 2 with sunlight casting warm tones, everything aligned exceptionally well with the character's overall ambiance. For the entire photo set, we intentionally used a telephoto prime lens with a large aperture to blur the background's ancient pavilion and water surface appropriately. This retained traditional architectural elements without overshadowing the subject, keeping visual focus squarely on the character.

Regarding post-production, no overly exaggerated color grading was applied; we mainly added a sense of breathability to light and shadow based on raw shots, suppressing highlights while shifting overall colors toward warm orange tones, reinforcing the autumnal, sunlit feeling. This treatment yields more authentic texture without over-smoothing skin or distorting details.

During shooting, the cosplayer consistently strove to match the composure and grace of the original lore. Whether holding an umbrella by the water or leaning against the staff with a subtle head tilt, her emotional state was captured brilliantly. Though weeds and natural surroundings introduced some outdoor unpredictability, the final result felt livelier than indoor studio shoots. All in all, collaboration during this Anime cosplay photoshoot went smoothly, and the final shots achieved our goal: turning a game character into tangible scenery in a real-world setting.
