The core theme of this shoot is a tipsy vibe, so I deliberately relaxed the character's typical sharp edge in both posing and emotional expression. Compared to her usual angry, sharp, or lofty combat stances in the original design, this setup feels more like a relaxed moment of letting her guard down.
Throughout the styling design, I kept the character's highly recognizable headpiece mask and white hair. To fit the daily life and tipsy vibe of the \"drunk Jeanne\" look, I changed into a black halter neck, off-the-shoulder gown with cut-out details on the chest. With a vintage bow tied at the neck, along with over-the-elbow black gloves and over-the-knee black stockings, the overall outfit adds a touch of elegant sexiness while preserving her typical mysterious and haughty aura. This represents a wonderful piece of my Anime cosplay daily life.
For the setting, we chose a vintage wooden bar counter with blinds in the background, and the table was dressed with various red wine bottles, decanters, a vintage brass oil lamp, and a green glass-shaded desk lamp. This is far more interesting than a plain background in a studio, as the props themselves become part of the narrative. Special thanks to the photographer for the vintage bar lighting; the striped light and shadow cast through the blinds fell beautifully on my cheeks and white hair, which, combined with the warm glow from the desk lamp and oil lamp, created a brilliant dramatic interplay of light and dark.
This photo set needed to showcase a kind of \"grace in tipsiness.\" Holding a red wine glass shouldn't be too stiff; the fingers must look relaxed, and the gaze should carry a touch of blur and spontaneity. To capture that casual feeling, we tried several angles. For instance, sitting sideways by the bar counter, resting my weight on my left arm with my body leaning slightly forward, or simply laying half-slumped on the bar, gazing at the whiskey glass in front of me. The photographer kept capturing those naturally flowing, unforced moments for this tipsy vibe portrait.
In expressing sexiness and elegance, the choice of costume material is crucial. Black velvet or fabrics with a similar texture reflect the light delicately, perfectly outlining the curves of the body. The black long stockings are the perfect finishing touch, peeking out from beneath the high-slit skirt hem under the warm, tipsy light. The unique texture of the mask and accessories creates a soft contrast with the gown, giving the character a strong sense of layers. It is not just about looking at the camera; looking away must also carry a narrative depth, as if reminiscing about the past.
As for makeup, the base was kept clean, and the eye makeup slightly emphasized the contours but without her usual heavy battlefield smokey effect, overall giving off a natural and healthy glow.
This attempt was highly interesting, breaking through the limits of conventional combat scenes to recreate another side of the character. No words are needed; the atmosphere naturally flowing from the light, shadow, and expressions perfectly blends the character's little temper with this lazy tipsiness. As the cosplayer, I felt myself completely relaxing in this scene, and all movements felt like subconscious reactions rather than forced poses.
The biggest highlight of this black off-the-shoulder dress lies in the neck bow and the chest cutout. If the bar lights were too bright, it would lose its texture, so we fine-tuned the lighting multiple times. The horizontal lines of the blinds segmented the frame while casting excellent modeling light on my face.
The display of wine bottles and glassware was not just decorative; I also used a goblet as an interactive prop. When holding the glass, swirling the wine, watching the red liquid sway inside, or subconsciously leaning down to sniff the toasted aroma of the whiskey glass, these details made the scene much more vivid.
The entire shoot lasted for a few hours. Wearing high heels, I made continuous adjustments to my supports and sitting postures. Although my body was a bit tired, immersing myself in the character and this scene made me forget all fatigue. This is indeed the magic brought by an excellent shoot. The light, costume, makeup, camera angles, and the character's conviction collided together to naturally yield a great set of photos.
The initial intention of this shoot was to explore a more casual, everyday possibility beyond the hardcore 2D settings. The bar environment inherently carries a lazy and relaxed atmosphere, creating a wonderful chemical reaction with the character's highly aggressive elegance. Although it's not her battle garb, this private-clothing vibe brings the character closer to the audience, making for a great visual expression exploration.
Shifting from the character's usual armor to this casual style highly tests expression. Although this look is a relatively sexy daily gown, it must still retain the character's unique traits. When I first entered the studio, sitting on that high barstool and looking at these vintage glass wine bottles, I actually struggled a bit to find the vibe. But the photographer was great at guiding me, telling me to ignore the camera at first and simply feel the stem of the goblet with my hand while letting my gaze wander. This relaxed state actually became the best part of these photos.
The light from that oil lamp and the green-shaded desk lamp was highly textured. The blinds cut the light path, giving the frame distinct layers, while I sat quietly in the middle of these dappled lights. The combination of long stockings and the high-slit black dress beautifully elongated my leg lines when shooting standing poses. This lazy elegance is actually very hard to capture; any larger movement would look too forced, and what we wanted was precisely that effortless vibe of casually glancing toward the lens.
Outside of the shoot, I even made a small joke because it was inconvenient to pick up small objects while wearing long gloves, but this little real-life episode instead allowed me to merge more naturally into this scene that was both in-character and carried a touch of my real self. I'm highly satisfied with the final cuts; the light, outfit, and expressions are all on the exact same wavelength. I hope you can also feel this unique beauty that fades away the sharp edges, leaving only pure laziness.
