For this Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) cosplay in her swimsuit edition, it took about half a month from the moment the costume arrived to make multiple rounds of adjustments to the details. Trimming the silvery-white wig required considerable patience, especially for those signature ahoge strands on top, which needed repeated shaping with hairspray to stand naturally. The overall sheen of the wig looked decent under indoor lighting without appearing excessively synthetic. To match Jeanne Alter's slightly wild yet cool and aloof demeanor, the eye makeup featured a reddish-orange base blended generously for depth, paired with golden-brown contact lenses. The lips were coated in a high-gloss lip gloss; when the camera moved in for close-ups, highlights across the tip of the nose and cheekbones brought out crisp facial dimensionality. Detail work on the eyes was crucial—the blending on the lower eyelids had to stay pristine to preserve that razor-sharp intensity. The contouring was applied slightly heavier to yield better definition under studio lighting.
Regarding the wardrobe, this black-and-gold swimsuit top is a halter-neck design, where the gold trim stitching tests garment craftsmanship. The lower half features a black sheer maxi skirt with a high slit; the fabric drapes nicely, though one must stay mindful of how the hem flows during poses to keep it from tangling around the legs. The gold ring armlets are fastened with Velcro, making them lightweight to wear without pinching the skin. A black choker layered with a delicate gold chain around the neck, alongside golden waist chains and circular metal charms across the abdomen, lent a strong heavy-metal aesthetic. Despite the abundance of accessories, their weight was well-balanced and did not burden the shoot. Because the top fabric catches light with a subtle sheen, direct light was avoided in favor of a softbox placed to the side for the best effect. Wardrobe security was paramount during shooting, as swimsuits of this cut easily shift during larger movements and require constant readjustment.
The first close-up shot focused on showcasing the facial makeup and upper body lines, along with the details of the armlets and necklaces. The second shot was a full-body mirror selfie displaying the height of the skirt slit and overall silhouette proportions. However, the background at home was rather cluttered with exercise equipment and clothes racks slightly stealing focus; DIY indoor setups inevitably run into spatial limitations. Lighting placement is critical during shoots, and phone selfies are prone to digital noise, so I stayed as close as possible to the light source, focusing sharply on the face and the gold trims of the garment. When taking mirror selfies, holding the phone to block the face served to showcase the full-body outfit, keeping the subject centered in the frame. To achieve a premium texture, post-processing color grading leaned toward lower saturation and higher contrast, highlighting the sophisticated quality of the black-and-gold palette.
Next, I plan to find an outdoor location with rich light and shadow layers for additional shots. While indoor lighting is consistent, it inevitably lacks a bit of atmospheric mood. Once the weather improves, taking this costume outside for dynamic action poses should showcase the character's formidable presence even better in Fate and Anime cosplay.
