[Altria cosplay] Sword of Promised Victory Convention Photos from the Summer Anime Expo

This photoshoot at the Summer Anime Expo took place in front of a dark backdrop heavy with blue lighting; combined with skulls and red roses scattered across the floor, the atmosphere instantly came to life. Before shooting, to better match the character's cold elegance, I styled the wig with care—locking the bangs with hairspray and applying a layer of wax to the tips to keep it from collapsing in the humid convention hall. For makeup, I emphasized fair skin and intense eye makeup paired with bold red lips to make the skin tone contrast stand out sharply under the cool-toned lighting.

The convention was packed that day, extremely hot and with a very crowded photo area. This deep blue dress was actually quite thick, and paired with the black choker around my neck and tight black gloves, sweating was inevitable. To maintain the character's haughty, aloof aura, I had to keep a stoic expression with minimal facial movement. The sword in my hand was genuinely heavy, posing quite a test of arm strength, especially when holding it aloft for poses. After every sequence of actions, my arms ached, but seeing the resulting shots made every bit of effort worth it.

When coordinating with photographer Wan Sheng, we wanted to avoid standard white studios, so he specifically scouted this backdrop filled with cool blue lighting. The lighting design was meticulously arranged—cool blue key light washed over me, contrasting against the white drapery and red roses on the floor, creating a strong warm-cool tension that highlighted the character's touch of lethal mystery. Throughout the shoot, he continuously guided my poses—how to tilt my head, look back, or hold the sword at the right height to elongate my silhouette. At one point, he asked me to hold a vigilant, sharp gaze, saying it fit the character's persona much better.

I handled post-processing myself using Meitu. My core idea was to darken the background further to heighten the cool, alluring blue ambiance. At the same time, I sculpted facial highlights and shadows to give my features more dimension, cleared up minor dullness caused by the heat, and refined skin texture for a luminous glow. I also bumped the saturation slightly on the red rose petals so they popped against the blue light. The embroidered filigree on the skirt hem was subtly enhanced with brushes to sharpen costume details. Regarding the Black stockings on my legs, because the plastic sheeting caused harsh glare, I locally darkened and softened them to enhance their texture.

In the past, I thought cosplay was just about wearing the costume, but after this shoot, I realized how much lighting, prop placement, and overall atmosphere dictate faithful portrayal.

Although there were minor hiccups—like almost brushing past someone when swinging the sword, or constantly adjusting my sitting posture because the Black stockings were slippery. The convention was overflowing with people, requiring long waits in the photo area, and a restroom break made us miss prime golden shooting time, leaving the later session slightly rushed. Fortunately, photographer Wan Sheng was deeply professional, capturing the decisive angles perfectly.

Overall, successfully bringing out this dark aesthetic for Altria gave me a great sense of accomplishment. Though the convention environment was chaotic, pairing it with cool blue lighting unexpectedly produced a stark, solemn atmosphere. The garment's quality and details made this offline cosplay appearance truly fulfilling.
