This official photoshoot for the Holy Night Dinner outfit was chosen to be shot in a wood-toned Spanish bar. Because the original design leans toward a gorgeous and vintage evening dress, I converted the scene into a bar environment that fits the vibe much better, adding the element of gambling table chips.
When preparing this outfit, the first thing decided upon was this deep purple off-the-shoulder satin gown. Black lace is spliced at the edge of the bodice, and with a giant matching color bowtie at the neck, it possesses the solemnity due to a Holy Night theme while carrying a touch of rebellious sexiness. To echo the uniformity of the long gloves and over-the-knee stockings, I specially chose a high-gloss purple in the same color scheme. This way, under the warm yellow spotlights, the texture of the silk and stockings can project layers through the halo reflections. Did you see those patent leather black shoes with red bottoms? That can be considered my favorite little clever touch among the props this time; the glossy black surface reflects light in the dim corners of the bar, and the red soles instantly catch the eye even during leg-lifting movements as part of this high heels and stockings outfit.
For the makeup, the focus was placed on the gaze. Golden eyeshadow was used to brighten the inner corners of the eyes, paired with dark eyeliner to elongate the eye shape, restoring the character's disdainful yet provocative expression. The white short wig took quite a bit of effort to handle, especially that iconic curled ahoge on top of the head. To keep its natural curve consistently, I sprayed hairspray to lock it in place. Paired with the black glossy headwear, the high contrast between black and white made the facial contours highly prominent, and the diamond-shaped earrings were the perfect finishing touch.
When the shoot officially started, we thought of many postures to interact with the scene. For example, crossing legs on a high stool while turning sideways to look back at the camera, or sitting by the gambling table holding the red-bottom shoe to create a lazy and casual atmosphere. The photographer took special care of the high-slit skirt design. In many camera angles, the display of the leg lines was intentionally preserved alongside the purple stockings. The warm light source shone on the wine bottles and glasses, refracting an amber halo that fell just in front of my face; without extra fill light, my gaze naturally held a sense of intoxication. Paired with the movement of raising the wine glass, the sense of interaction was very strong.
I usually like to add a bit of my own understanding when shooting sets. For a character who is tsundere yet carries a bit of elegance, simply keeping a stiff face would be too rigid. Therefore, during the shoot, I tried adding some small movements, like lifting the skirt hem to reveal a bit of the thigh or half-leaning against the edge of the bar counter, blending that slightly tipsy state with a confident aura. It was a very exhilarating creation.
After lowering the contrast of the light and shadow, the entire set of photos preserved the authentic texture brought by the warm light sources. There was no need for excessive reshaping, entirely to achieve that lazy style a late-night bar ought to have. The process of immersively shaping a character is always delightful, and this time, the Holy Night bar atmosphere was handled just right.
