This time, I chose to shoot Sanae by an abandoned concrete pier. The sea breeze was much stronger than imagined, keeping my hair strands and cuffs fluttering wildly, which actually perfectly matched the character's sense of agility in the wind. The blue long skirt and white top look well-layered under natural light. To restore Sanae's classic look from Touhou Project, I specially adjusted the details of the hair ornaments and bowtie, and the gohei in my hand was also given a weathered treatment so that the prop blends into the scene without being too jarring.
The shoot took place at dusk, with light casting diagonally from the sea level, bringing out a slightly cool atmospheric feel. Without having to intentionally strike poses, sitting on the edge of the broken bridge watching the sea or raising the gohei to feel the wind direction could capture natural and story-driven frames. Since the scene itself was relatively rough, the concrete blocks and rusted rebars actually accentuated the delicateness of the clothing, and this contrast is highly photogenic for this beach photography session.
Cosplay is not just about wearing the right clothes; it's about making people believe that this character exists in the frame at this very moment. This time, Sanae's gentle yet determined temperament was successfully captured. Thanks to the coordination of the weather and tides, it counts as a highly satisfying outdoor session recently for this anime cosplay work.
