Shifting the focus to this blue-purple butterfly on my shoulder, shooting the finished photos of the "Butterflies dancing" costume for Castorice in Honkai: Star Rail was a process that even I found highly challenging.

This shoot and post-processing were indeed following the thematic concept of "When a butterfly lands on a branch, what has withered will be reborn." To convey this imagery, my team and I had a very clear direction from the initial stages of styling—not just to replicate the appearance, but hoping to capture the character's own tranquil yet vital aura.

Let's first talk about the preparation of this gear. The silver-violet gradient long hair paired with the iconic elf ears forms the foundation of this look. What I love most about the entire costume is the deep blue outer skirt, which features twinkling spots and textures resembling tree veins, paired with the layered white underskirt inside, giving the entire skirt hem an excellent sense of movement and layering. The oversleeves are detached, with blue openwork lace along the edges, echoing the blue butterfly hair ornament on the head and the black choker on the neck. Beyond just the outfit, the specially customized shoulder butterfly accessories and the pearl chain high heels on the ankles also played a crucial role in enhancing the look. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the completion level of this gear.

We actually did a lot of homework regarding the composition of this shoot. The essence of portrait photography often lies in the adaptation of details to the scene. The white openwork arch and vintage candlesticks in the background, along with a massive arrangement of pink floral art, paired with an abundance of blue and purple ambient lighting, shaped a space that felt both sacred and dreamy. Among them, my favorites are the few shots where I am sitting on the white Roman column circular platform. This not only allowed the large skirt hem to drop or spread out naturally but also, paired with my slight side turn and chin-resting posture, closer aligned with Castorice's lazy yet premium demeanor.

For the post-processing, we also incorporated many new attempts this time. In the past, I might have leaned toward making the images bright and translucent, but this time, to match the sense of storytelling, I used split toning that leans toward a cinematic texture. The image overall skews toward a purple-blue tone, with the contrast between warm and cool colors strengthened in the shadows and highlights to prevent the picture from looking too flat. In terms of macro close-ups, we deliberately enlarged the blue butterfly on my fingertip as well as the butterflies among the flowers, which was also to reinforce the visual memory points regarding "rebirth" and "metamorphosis."

As for fun anecdotes during the shooting process, when I was holding that massive bouquet of pink and white roses, my entire line of sight was blocked by the flowers. I had to manage my expressions under the photographer's verbal guidance, which instead filled the shoot with unknown surprises. We also shot the dynamic motion of lifting the skirt hem back and forth many times, just to capture the glossiness of the fabric under the lights at the exact moment the skirt flew up.

Overall, making this attempt in the realm of Honkai: Star Rail cosplay followed the original character concept but also added my own understanding of tone and lighting, hoping to convey this sense of tranquility and gorgeousness from the photos.
