I've sorted out the Guangzhou anime convention photo report from the May Day Firefly ACG Expo. Slipping into this Shimoe Koharu maid cosplay outfit, I took a set of photos with a slice-of-life feel at the convention's outdoor cafe seating area.
When I first received this outfit, my immediate thought was how wonderfully the pink color palette flattered and brightened the skin tone. The main body of the maid dress features a pink-and-white color block; a massive pink bow at the neckline, accented with a heart-shaped metal buckle in the center, prevents the look from feeling monotonous and brings its own sweet ceremonial flair. The halo accessory atop my head and the black feather hair ornaments cascading down both sides are vital character hallmarks. Building upon the halo with an illuminating ring ensured the entire look caught everyone's eye, whether in the dimmer convention halls or under the afternoon outdoor sun.
For makeup, I opted for pinkish-purple eyeshadow and light-colored contact lenses, paired with a slightly languid eye look to produce a visual impression that feels both innocent and subtly mischievous. The twin tails feature light pink hair with gradient dip-dyeing at the tips; to complement the outfit, I intentionally added a few blue extension clips to the ends, creating a gentle contrast with the small black wing accessories.
The on-site setup was ingeniously arranged: the black wrought-iron round tables and chairs created a lovely contrast with the pink outfit. We specially prepared a pink sparkling soda topped with whipped cream and heart decorations, paired with cupcakes on a serving tray as props, infusing the frame with wonderful environmental context. The lighting was the crisp, clear natural light of a convention afternoon, illuminating my face softly and organically. Without complicated artificial rigs, the fine texture of the skin and clothing fabrics was clearly preserved.
The photoshoot itself was full of fun. Balancing the tray required steady concentration while coordinating facial expressions and camera angles. The white lace-trimmed calf socks paired with black round-toe Mary Janes looked exceptionally charming and docile in full-body shots. After capturing several standing candid shots, I switched to seated postures in the chair—curling my hands gently near my chest and utilizing leg extension to visually elongate my proportions. This look proved to be photogenic from every angle, whether straight-on or in profile.
The maid outfit came with numerous accessories: white lace wrist cuffs, a slender black choker around the neck, and expansive black feathers on the back, all creating dynamic motion when walking and turning. The convention was bustling with crowds, but the photographer skillfully framed angles, discovering a patch of lush greenery as a backdrop that avoided crowded chaos while using natural greens to make the pink outfit pop even more.
The most rewarding part of cosplaying this character at the convention was having so many fellow fans recognize the franchise and come over to share compliments, giving me a huge confidence boost. Even though the costume was intricate to put on with so many props to manage, being able to deliver such an adorable portrayal made every effort worthwhile. This May Day holiday anime convention experience became completely fulfilling and wonderful thanks to this photo set.
