Firefly ACG Expo Day 2, out on the grounds. This time I brought Hsin from Wuthering Waves. Prepping for this Convention outdoor photoshoot took substantial advance planning. Hall lighting at conventions tends to be messy—especially overhead downlights, which easily wash out facial contours and compromise photo quality—so after discussing with the photographer, we decided to capture this series outdoors under natural sky.
Starting with the styling: within Hsin's lore, the colossal black-and-white plush animal ears serve as the definitive soul. To keep the ears standing upright without collapsing, a sturdy internal wire frame was installed, though wearing them for hours certainly left my neck aching. The wig was chosen in a white base with soft grey-black ombre highlights, textured with airy separation and crowned by golden branchlet ornaments set with rubies to evoke the classical elegance of a mythical fox spirit. The crimson diamond mark centered between the brows was painted with specialized body paint, echoing the red eyeshadow beneath the lower lids. To elevate the character's aura, the outer eye corners were deepened with smoky gradation, paired with crimson contact lenses to ensure arresting focus in every frame.
Garment details were exceptionally lavish. A fitted black tube top accented with white piping was anchored by an ornate, oversized golden filigree breastplate centered with dual ruby-and-sapphire jewels, connected below to gold rings and flowing scarlet tassels. The outer layer featured sweeping, billowy red sleeves lined with translucent white chiffon that caught sunlight with delicate translucence. The crimson totem body paint tracing my neck and chest took nearly an hour of hand-painting, sweeping from collarbone to decolletage to deepen an enigmatic allure. While visually stunning, navigating the expo grounds in this heavy attire with its array of metallic hardware and weighted yardage was a genuine physical workout.
Crowd density on Day 2 of Firefly ACG Expo was no joke, with people swarming every corner of the perimeter. To frame clean compositions, the photographer scouted tricky angles—using telephoto compression to blur the distant background or finding quiet pockets to block pedestrian foot traffic. Several times, just as a pose was struck, waves of passersby drifted across the frame. Yet the natural outdoor light was exquisite, softly gracing facial planes and giving the makeup finish an organic, radiant glow. The gesture of raising a hand to lightly graze an ear was meant to chisel the beast ears cleanly against the sky while elongating the arm line.
Embodying Hsin, I continually reflected on her micro-expressions. She isn't simply sweet or cute; she possesses a mature, alluring composure. Thus, I avoided locking eyes directly with the glass, casting my gaze subtly downward with a faint, enigmatic trace of a smile. Surrounded by the deafening expo bustle, slipping completely into character was tough, but the instant the lens focused, I instinctively locked into state, channeling that fluid fox-spirit grace.
Due to the overwhelming crowd crush, the photographer and I got swept apart by the surging crowd after wrapping a few setups, before we even managed to swap contact information—one of those bittersweet, chaotic little convention realities. Yet seeing the final stills made every ounce of sweat entirely worthwhile. The warm outdoor sun, the bustling hum of the crowd, and this heavy, exquisitely crafted coordinate made this Firefly ACG Expo an unforgettable creative chapter.
