[Kasuga Tsubaki cosplay] The Tour Guide of Blue Archive: Moments of Waving the Red Flag

Cosplaying is more than just changing clothes; it's like briefly living as another person. This time, I recreated the red-flag-waving tour guide from Blue Archive, Kasuga Tsubaki. Slipping into this deep-navy Japanese Uniform cosplay, the character puzzle began coming together the moment I picked up the white gloves and the red flag. Unlike the usual cute route, this professional uniform requires more internal grounding.

The craftsmanship of this costume, hair, and props deserves praise. The tailoring is crisp, and the deep-navy blazer feels very premium. The white gloves symbolize her tour guide identity, while the addition of Black stockings brings a touch of everyday approachability; the entire ensemble looks both professional and imbued with the character's signature relaxed languor. The little round beret and animal ears on both sides are the true adorable highlights of this styling. Red and white mini flowers pinned on each side lend a touch of softness and agility to the crisp uniform aesthetic. From the name tag on the left chest and the deep-red bow tie to the walkie-talkie clipped at the waist, not a single accessory was missed—this detail-packed feel is genuinely fantastic.

For makeup and hair, I chose a short black wig with bangs styled to flatter the face shape, appearing clean and neat. The makeup intentionally blended reddish eyeshadow with softly rounded eyeliner to craft a gentle, slightly sleepy, and subtly intoxicated look. Apricot warm tones were selected for blush and lipstick, keeping the facial state lively without feeling overly intense, perfectly matching her languid tour guide persona. The shooting environment was set indoors with Venetian blinds, where incoming sunlight served as a natural giant softbox. A white fleece blanket in the background provided a soft, healing textile texture that balanced the formality and weight of the dark uniform, looking visually relaxing.

To bring out the character's best state, the photographer and I repeatedly tested different poses and compositions in this Cosplay photography project. The first shot—a seated pose with one hand in the pocket and the other holding the red flag—felt casual and spontaneous; the third shot utilized foreground framing for a picture-in-picture effect, enhancing the narrative depth. But my personal favorite remains the second photo: sitting on the blanket with legs extended and crossed, holding the flag with both hands. This pose maximally preserved the character's dignity and elegance while showcasing the smooth texture of the Black stockings and clean leg lines. Bathed in the soft light filtering through the blinds, that cozy bit of leisure during a working day was conveyed to perfection.

In Blue Archive lore, Kasuga Tsubaki is a slightly dazed yet thoroughly responsible little tour guide; although usually seeming languid, waving her red flag on the station platform makes her surprisingly dependable. During the shoot, I set aside my usual habits to channel this state of slight fatigue blended with earnest dedication—whether tilting my head slightly or looking straight into the lens, integrating the character's nuances into every subtle motion of Kasuga Tsubaki cosplay.

Special thanks go to photographer @umi for mature control over light and framing, prioritizing everyday realism over overly intricate sets to max out the ambiance. Halfway through the shoot, we discussed how to hold the red flag more naturally; while the flag is simple, it serves as the key visual anchor in the frame. The flow of visual storytelling was effortless and highly efficient. Traveling with heavy props and attire was far from easy, but seeing those translucent lighting effects and the character's spirit in the viewfinder made every bit of effort worthwhile. When raising the red flag, finding the sweet spot is key: not too rigid like standing at attention, yet not too lax to look unprofessional. Between tension and release, I gradually found that adorable state of Kasuga Tsubaki—slightly sleepy yet earnestly working. Such thoughtful nuances during Cosplay photography are part of the pure joy cosplay brings. The light shifting through the blinds changed quickly in the afternoon, but we captured the shutter at the softest moment to achieve this luminous, warm atmosphere.

Bringing this wonderful game character into reality and presenting frames true to the original essence through the lens is immensely fulfilling. This experience deepened my appreciation for cosplay: it is never just about getting the costume right, but requiring the harmonious interplay of emotion and environment in Blue Archive.
