On the second day of the 34th Firefly ACG Expo, I finally got to meet everyone in my Peter Strasser cosplay look. From the beginning, this costume incorporated many Chinese-style elements, with the primary black-and-white palette creating strong visual depth in the natural outdoor lighting. The halter-neck black top with its teardrop cutout design maintains the character's cool, aloof presence while adding a touch of modified Chinese aesthetic. The sheer white gauze shrug loosely draped over both shoulders was extremely lightweight; although the weather in Guangzhou was quite hot on the day of the expo, this flowing fabric created fantastic dynamic movement in the breeze while walking and posing.
For makeup, I paired red colored contact lenses with matching eyeshadow, alongside the classic straight-bangs black twin-tails hairstyle. The two white plush pom-poms on top and the hanging slender beaded tassels were the soul of this styling, adding a hint of playfulness to the cool-toned ensemble. The white round fan in my hand features a long green tassel; beyond serving as an iconic prop during photos, it also prevented hand poses from looking monotonous. I chose long white gloves to maintain a unified color harmony throughout the whole outfit along with the over-the-knee White stockings and chunky white high heels.
This photo set was taken by the photographer in an outdoor area near the expo venue, using dense green foliage as a backdrop. Sunlight was abundant at the time, creating subtle reflections on the White stockings and white shrug; however, the photographer controlled the lighting masterfully, maintaining the bright clarity of front lighting while softly blurring the shadows of trees in the background. To capture the full silhouette and the visual extension of the legs, we experimented with multiple poses. For instance, lifting one foot to stride forward was a real test of balance, but it showcased the contrast between the high-cut romper shorts and the over-the-knee White stockings wonderfully. Additionally, half-kneeling poses not only filled the composition nicely but also displayed the full structure of the outfit from front to back, including the metal clasp details on the chest. During hand poses, I paid special attention to gripping the handle of the round fan with the white gloves and slightly touching my lip with my fingertips, aiming to convey the character's unique cool yet slightly enigmatic temperament.
Event photography at expos always comes with its challenges. Outdoor lighting shifts rapidly, and with crowds of passersby around, finding clean backgrounds required exploring several angles to avoid the clutter, testing the photographer's quick adaptability. A black-and-white cosplay costume can easily lose focus in complex environments, but using a wide aperture to blur out the greenery and paths immediately elevated the subject's prominence. My biggest takeaway from this set of photos is the importance of team collaboration: not only did the costume need smoothing out, but the intricate tassels and gauze easily tangled when walking, requiring me to readjust the shoulder shrug every few shots. Though the preparation was meticulous, seeing all these elements fit harmoniously into the final images made every effort worthwhile. On Day 2 of the expo, I basically moved back and forth between outdoor photo shoots and casual hall wandering. While the outfit wasn't particularly heavy, wearing the full set still took plenty of stamina. What satisfies me most about this set is the pure aesthetic of black and white, delivering rich texture across varied lighting conditions.
