Today, I finally finished mirror selfies for my Blue Archive Shimoe Koharu Gymnastics uniform cosplay. This outfit features distinct athletic elements and iconic character traits in its design, so I paid extra attention to texture and detail during prep. The white sports T-shirt is made of a soft fabric, with blue piping at the collar and cuffs serving as the finishing touch of this school uniform style, nicely outlining that uniquely loose, comfortable yet neat character of a gymnastics uniform. The dark blue plaid shorts on the bottom look simple, but they actually require a precise cut fitting the thigh circumference to maintain natural folds during movement at home without feeling overly tight or bulky. Paired with pure White stockings and pink flat Mary Jane shoes, the color palette creates a light-toned youthful energy. Furthermore, the tops of the stockings specifically feature light blue stripes echoing the shirt's piping, creating a harmonious look where the details stand up to close inspection.

The most challenging part was undoubtedly the massive black feathered wings on my back. Operating such a large prop puts one's coordination to the test, especially when taking mirror selfies in a small indoor room. It needs to be firmly anchored around the shoulder blades using a harness system to ensure it doesn't sag from awkward angles, while also avoiding obstructing the overall silhouette across various camera angles. When I first put them on, my center of gravity shifted noticeably, but after getting used to it, I found my balance. While having giant black wings looks a bit surreal in a home environment, they are truly an indispensable soul element of this character's design, creating a visually striking contrast with the pink long hair and black beret.

Because this shoot happened on a whim, there was no professional outdoor location or studio setup, so I chose to do it in my bedroom with a full-length mirror. Snapping selfies in a confined space like this actually simulates the realistic feel of putting together an outfit in daily life as an ACG Cosplayer. However, one awkward aspect was the straightforward home lighting—especially when using a camera flash for fill light, which made highlights prominent and shadows somewhat harsh without the soft atmospheric diffuse of a softbox. Yet, this direct, casual lighting quality, combined with the subtle lens stretch in the mirror, actually accentuated the sporty everyday nature of the Gymnastics uniform cosplay, trading polished distance for an authentic slice of life.

The face-covering sticker was mainly used for privacy protection; while it's a slight shame for showing character expression, it doesn't detract from conveying the overall look. For the wig, I chose light-pink straight hair matching the character—the fibers are light and airy without the heavy, shiny look of low-quality wigs. Paired with the black beret and light blue hair knots on either side, the head silhouette looks soft and cute. Koharu's personality in the game is full of gap moe—serious and earnest, yet slightly clumsy and flustered—so during the selfies, I tried to maintain a relaxed, natural posture, keeping my limbs casual rather than striking rigid studio poses.

Overall, although this Shimoe Koharu Gymnastics uniform cosplay at home was limited by lighting and equipment, falling short of a pristine studio shoot, the core combination of the large wings, sportswear, beret, and White stockings still beautifully captured the character's signature youthful energy and sense of justice. Preparing the costume and props took quite a bit of effort in sourcing the right tailoring—especially perfecting the proportions of the plaid shorts and white T-shirt to make the fit both flattering and lively. While the shots in the mirror might not be the most polished, they represent my most natural state right now. Experiencing the character in such an everyday way was a delightfully fun experiment.
