[Misaki cosplay] Blue Archive's gymnasium daily life and volleyball practice

To capture the atmosphere of Misaki in Blue Archive—which is both cool and detached yet carries a hint of an athletic vibe—I spent a long time preparing for this. The clothing part chose a classic school athletic set: a white short-sleeved T-shirt with dark blue piping at the collar and cuffs, paired with dark blue athletic shorts featuring double white stripes. To stay closer to 2D visual habits, I also tried pairing it with pure white over-the-knee stockings, creating a very unique texture when combined with the sportswear. The wig was specially trimmed and styled; the circular hair buns on both sides of the head and the iconic silver crescent moon hair accessory had their angles adjusted multiple times to ensure they wouldn't look awkward in front of the lens.
The shooting location was chosen as a locker room with grey lockers and wooden benches. To create the atmosphere right after a workout, we prepared a blue-yellow-white spliced volleyball, a bottle of mineral water, and a white sweat-wiping towel as props. The first set of photos features me sitting cross-legged on the grey padded bench hugging the volleyball; later, I also tried a pose kneeling half-way on the bench with one hand pressing on the volleyball while looking back. This action actually has quite high demands on back and core engagement, because while maintaining expression management, the overall center of gravity had to lean forward slightly to reveal the lines from the back to the legs.
Midway through, to increase the richness of the scene, we moved to the wooden desk and classroom furniture area. The shot of sitting on a desk with crossed legs fixing hair actually tested the photographer's grasp of light during shooting. When the side backlight hit, it formed a soft layer of highlight on the white stockings, making the transition of the leg lines appear more natural. Additionally, to capture that lazy yet somewhat distant expression, we also tried a top-down perspective while lying flat on a bench, with one hand reaching toward the lens and the other gently caressing the cheek. Although this angle has strong visual impact, it also requires the wig to have no blind spots, keeping the bangs and side strands fluffy and curved.
Shooting an athletic-style photoset is most troublesome when keeping the clothes flat and the white socks clean. Because constantly moving up and down to change poses easily wrinkles the clothes and collects dust on the socks. Every time I changed poses, I had to readjust the hem of the top to ensure the exposed height of the abdomen was just right—not looking deliberate yet having enough tension. The sports equipment on site was actually quite heavy; taking that volleyball as an example, holding it with one hand or carrying it for a long time is quite tiring, but for the sake of realism in the frame, I tried my best to keep the muscles naturally tensed.
The entire set of photos transitions from the cool tones of the locker room to the warm wood tones of the classroom, and the changes in light and shadow gave the frame more layers. In fact, rather than just posing, I preferred to convey the state of this daily yet uniquely charismatic character through gaze and body language. Some actions were improvised, such as the moment captured while adjusting the edge of the over-the-knee stockings, which turned out much more vivid than a deliberately struck pose. Every time I do cosplay, it's a re-interpretation of the character, and from lighting to post-production color grading, this set strived to restore that refreshing and textured tone. Seeing the final photos now, I feel all the previous hard work was totally worth it.
