Temporarily parting with the serene tranquility of Mount Putuo, I dove straight into the vibrant splash party at Chimelong Water Park to embody an untamed, carefree Xiaoezi. This Fantasy Westward Journey costume underwent functional modifications specifically for aquatic environments: the traditionally voluminous hemlines were streamlined into a lighter, more mobile cut while faithfully retaining the signature pastel yellow hue and airy, translucent chiffon textures. The wig was pinned into an elevated topknot adorned with white floral hair accessories, framed by dangling sidelocks—a stark contrast to our standard studio productions. It was my first time staging such an exuberant character concept at an open-air water park. Though the skies turned overcast with intermittent rain, the drizzle added an organic, dew-kissed filter over the compositions, filling the air with misty petrichor that felt refreshingly distinct from bone-dry indoor studio setups.

The shoot was anything but simple. Saturated with moisture, the tresses and sheer silk robes clung together; preserving that floating, airy silhouette required constant readjustments every time I stepped out of the water. Treading barefoot across damp ceramic tiles while droplets splashed against skin sent chills rising up my ankles, yet witnessing ripples cascade across the water surface revealed a spontaneous kinetic energy virtually impossible to replicate indoors. To ensure photographic quality, I poured substantial effort into kinetic choreography—leaning along the water's edge, casting over-the-shoulder glances, or dipping a barefoot toe gently into the ripples. Every movement had to balance spirited playfulness with the impact of surface reflections on chiaroscuro. Tiny raindrops glistening across locks and shoulders turned into natural specular highlights, making skin textures appear remarkably translucent. Our photographer was phenomenal, continuously adjusting angles to bypass crowds while framing background water park rides and falling raindrops into a cool, refreshing summer narrative. The blurred blue water slides and joyous park-goers formed a marvelous contrast of stillness and motion around the focal subject.

Posing in the water is physically exhausting, especially when maintaining pristine garment architecture. Light-colored fabrics run the risk of becoming see-through or collapsing flatly once completely drenched, so we chose to mist the textiles with droplets rather than submerge them entirely. A purple mood-light prop positioned along the pool edge served as a vibrant high-saturation accent, injecting playful vitality into an otherwise cool-toned palette. In cosmetics, facing high humidity and water spray demanded heavier, waterproof setting techniques; eye shadow and blush favored sheer peachy-orange tones to prevent cakey textures under natural daylight, paired with long-wear glossy lip tints to withstand splashes along the pool rim.

Shooting at Chimelong was truly unique, transplanting an ethereal video game persona into a bustling, real-world aquatic playground. The series marries the character's mythical aura with the visceral refreshment of midsummer. Wrapping the day left me thoroughly chilled by pool water and drizzle, yet glimpsing that harmony of water drops, ambient lighting, and expressive character emotion across the viewfinder made braving the rain intensely rewarding.
