I've always been super enthusiastic about shooting this Ryuge Kisaki look from Blue Archive. The design blends an altered deep blue cheongsam with gold-thread dragon embroidery, topped off with an oversized black-and-white striped long coat that adds immense decorative flair. The lake-blue frog button at the collar and matching ribbon hair accessories serve as wonderful bright accents against the predominantly dark palette.
A lot of thought went into costume customization and fabric selection beforehand. The cheongsam fabric was chosen with a jacquard velvet texture, allowing the deep blue base to catch subtle sheens under studio lights. The golden dragon embroidery uses a dense 3D embroidery technique, keeping the contours remarkably sharp and vibrant whether standing or seated. The striped patterns along the coat hem and sleeves were precisely aligned so the lines remain neat whether worn or draped over the shoulders. For the wig, I selected a deep grayish-black style, tied into two rounded buns with a long ponytail, paired with long fringe bangs to frame the face and closely mirror the character's canon visual identity.
Ryuge Kisaki's gaze is very distinct, so I placed extra emphasis on defining the eye contours during makeup. The red colored contact lenses were crucial; combined with deep-toned eyeshadow, they allowed the character to project a calm, focused presence in front of the lens, harmonizing perfectly with the cool undertones of the deep blue outfit. During the shoot, to best highlight the dragon embroidery details, I deliberately adjusted my body angles so the key light struck the embroidery directly, bringing out the brilliance of the gold against the dark fabric.
During the shoot, the photographer and I played with poses around a wooden chair and a black suitcase. Poses ranged from a standing stance with one leg slightly bent and the coat slipping off the shoulder, to sitting cross-legged on the chair or resting one foot on the suitcase. For the shots in heels, I specifically chose glossy black chunky heels, which not only matched the dark color scheme but also visually elongated the leg proportions. In the latter half, I took off the shoes to try a barefoot look; placing my bare feet on the suitcase and chair edges gave the character an effortless, breezy, yet valiant aura. While the high slit of the dress posed some minor inconvenience during posing, necessary stickers/overlays were added in post-production for better presentation, which actually helped keep the visual focus firmly on the overall styling and expression.
Keeping the hairstyle crisp and clean was also essential, as it featured twin buns, a long ponytail, and a slender decorative stick overhead. To prevent the stick from causing harsh specular reflections, lighting angles required meticulous fine-tuning. Overall, I feel the atmosphere was captured quite well; whether wearing shoes or barefoot, every frame strived to portray that poised, unflustered demeanor at the core of the character. While this strong Chinese-style cheongsam cosplay look might be tricky to wear in everyday settings, against the clean white cyclorama background of the studio shoot, the rich colors and tailoring were amplified—making it an immensely fulfilling anime cosplay photoshoot experience.
