[Puppet Cosplay] Genshin Impact's Young Girl Puppet: Freezing a Serene Moment Amidst Light, Shadows, and Pages

This set of photos I'm sharing features a brand-new release of a Genshin Impact Puppet Cosplay, which also serves as the first dual-person anime cosplay project I've completed with my partner, Youyu. We actually spent quite a bit of time preparing for the overall shoot. From the red and black highlights of the wig to the material choice of the skirt's hemline, we wanted to reproduce the character's original aura to the greatest extent before the camera. For this shoot, we experimented with three different setups. The outdoor-style scene in image 1 with greenery and cherry blossoms retained very natural layers with the help of a reflector, despite the high lighting contrast. For images 2 and 4, we selected a pure white high-key backdrop, paired with Gothic window frames and light blue flowers, which perfectly fit that ethereal and pure atmosphere.

I personally have a special preference for the solo close-up in front of the bookcase in image 3. The lighting on site at that time was on the warmer side, and we deliberately avoided too much frontal fill light, choosing instead to use rim lighting to outline the contours of the wig and face, which preserved more of a three-dimensional feel. The white gloves and white over-the-knee stockings are incredibly eye-catching against the overall dark-toned wooden background, which is one of the reasons why I think image 3 is very suitable as a cover photo. When shooting the dual-person interactions, to make the frames more vivid, we tried various physical contacts and prop interactions, such as leaning on that enormous green irregularly-shaped cushion, or slightly raising a hand during eye contact. These details imbue the photos with more emotion and a sense of storytelling.

The costume itself was quite a test of wearing comfort; just the crisscross lacing on the legs and the ring bands on the arms took a lot of time to put on and take off. While the white thigh-highs and white dress look beautiful, we cleaned the shoe soles and the venue the night before the shoot to prevent smudging the hosiery and hemlines. White gauzy materials photograph beautifully during movement, especially that split second of flying gauze captured in image 4, which perfectly portrays the character's cool yet ethereal personality. However, adjusting this kind of high-contrast color tone really tests post-processing skills, as one must ensure that the white highlights are not overexposed while keeping the details in the shaded areas fully intact.

During this cosplay photography session, we found that low-angle upward shots could showcase the spatial extension of the legs and hemlines, while eye-level angles could more clearly present accessory details, such as the ruby on the neck and the crisscross lacing at the collar. This location choice also specially used a white background wall with a hollowed-out design, leaving excellent room for post-processing soft-light effects. Although my body was exhausted after a full session, seeing how well the contrast between the vintage book pages and the pure white dreamland turned out in the edited final photos made it feel completely worthwhile. The charm of this set of photos probably lies in its ability to objectify the character's elegance within a still-life-like environment. I hope this character aura expressed through camera language can bring everyone a different visual experience.
