[Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid] Tohru Loves Kobayashi (Kobayashi cosplay & Tohru cosplay Duo Cosplay)

"Tohru loves Kobayashi"—this is the core setting and the main keynote of this photoshoot.

This time, we cosplayed Kobayashi and Tohru from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, specifically choosing a Japanese-style cafe with warm lighting for Cafe photography to match the heartwarming everyday texture of the original work. We put a lot of effort into the costumes, makeup, and props. Tohru's gradient wig was a major challenge; to achieve that smooth transition into orange-pink at the ends, the wig had to be dyed golden-yellow first followed by targeted highlights, allowing rich depth under warm lighting without looking artificial. The wooden dragon horns were custom-made and hollowed out inside to reduce weight, ensuring my neck wouldn't get exhausted wearing them all day, though we had to mind the angles in composition to avoid blocking facial expressions.

Kobayashi's styling looks simple on the surface, but actually demands attention to numerous details. The pink wig needed to be trimmed with layered straight bangs to properly accentuate her reserved, stoic temperament. The crisp pairing of the white shirt and yellow tie had to remain sharp, and cinching the shirt cuffs was equally essential. The clear-lens glasses presented a major shooting hurdle; because of severe reflections, we constantly had to adjust the glasses' tilt and camera positioning to prevent unwanted glare and reflections from ruining the frame.

Regarding makeup, given Tohru's dragon character design, her eye makeup featured elongated wings and enlarged contours, paired with vibrant contact lenses to reinforce her persona. Kobayashi's makeup was kept as clean as possible to emphasize her cool detachment and charming gap-moe contrast. On set, since Tohru is deeply affectionate toward Kobayashi, I proactively leaned in close to Kobayashi throughout the shoot—holding her hand or wrapping my arms around her. The first photo was a candid snapshot taken while adjusting our standing positions, capturing me smiling with closed eyes; the second composition shows me hugging her from behind in close intimacy, perfectly embodying Tohru's possessiveness and deep attachment to Kobayashi. With both subjects centered in a tight, well-balanced composition, I chose the second photo as the cover.

The cafe was illuminated by warm tungsten lights, providing an inherently cozy tone. In post-processing, I avoided overly dramatic color grading, only slightly brightening the faces while preserving the natural textures of skin and fabric to maintain that warm, slice-of-life atmosphere. To ensure a seamless look, Kobayashi's neck area was also retouched with care. Midway through the shoot, we burst into laughter when a dragon horn accidentally bumped into a lampshade, but quickly regained our focus. When doing a Duo Cosplay pairing where both partners share the same mutual understanding of character personalities and interactions, shooting efficiency is exceptionally high. Overall, this photoshoot was a joyful creative experience where lighting, props, and the cafe environment aligned seamlessly. I hope the atmosphere presented in these photos resonates with everyone's cherished impressions of those heartwarming daily moments from the anime.
