Today is October 11, Loli Day—the perfect occasion to organize and share my Kanna cosplay convention photos taken earlier at CICF Comic-Con. This time, I brought Kanna from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid to life in her cozy, pink-and-white winter ensemble. The wardrobe features considerable layering: the outermost layer is a white fleece-trimmed cape adorned with pink tribal geometric fret patterns and crisp black piping, fastening at the throat with black ribbon cords. Beneath rests a pastel-pink oversized long-sleeved tunic blouse, with both cuffs and hemline trimmed in tiered white ruffled lace. To faithfully honor Kanna's canonical design, the wig featured a soft lavender-purple ombré gradient; the blunt-cut bangs and long side tendrils required diligent smoothing, while the white horn headpieces were secured with a concealed headband, complemented by black spherical hair bobbles behind the head and delicately blended purple gradient tips. During makeup trials, I tested various eye stylings before settling on a soft pink base with diffused crimson outer-corner shading, paired with brilliant blue cosmetic contact lenses to capture her clear, translucent gaze. Foundation setting was especially critical in a convention environment to prevent mid-day oiliness and shine.
These shots were captured alongside the expansive glass curtain wall on the second floor of the convention center. The natural daylight was abundant and the background remained relatively clean, though we had to carefully angle away from reflective glass glare. During the shoot, I explored diverse postures: standing waves of greeting, clenching both fists adorably, gesturing with finger-counting poses, and sitting down across the carpet while holding a chibi Kanna Nendoroid figure. That little Nendoroid was a deliberate prop brought specifically to complement the styling, harmonizing effortlessly with the overall look. Because the ruffled skirt is cut short, I paired it with opaque, over-the-knee White stockings and red Mary Jane shoes. The White stockings feature a plush, substantial knit texture with delicate lace frills at the cuffs, creating a remarkably smooth and flattering leg contour. The red Mary Janes feature slight block heels, which definitely left my feet aching after an entire day of walking the show floor. With dense convention crowds, moving through packed aisles was challenging—particularly with the fluffy fleece cape easily catching on passersby's bags or props; yet for the sake of the final visuals, these minor inconveniences were completely acceptable.
Lighting inside the CICF exhibition hall was tricky, with harsh yellowish overhead spotlights, which is why I sought out this perimeter window bay illuminated by diffused natural skylight. Between takes, I coordinated framing with the photographer to avoid clipping limbs at the composition edges, using full-body portraits to emphasize sartorial cohesion and elongated leg lines. The chromatic palette remained anchored in sweet pink and white, offset by purple hair fibers and alabaster horns for visual balance. Cosplay transcends merely donning an outfit—it demands embodying the character's demeanor and physical quirks. Kanna possesses a wonderfully innocent, deadpan cuteness, so throughout facial management, I focused on keeping my eyes crystal-clear and gestures unhurried and relaxed. As a veteran anime fan, every comic convention tests one's endurance and energy to the max, but reviewing the finished photos makes every ounce of effort completely worthwhile. That wraps up this sharing session—I'll post the remaining selects once post-processing wraps up!
