This sharing centers on the Smoke of Partings skin series for Li Xin and Gongsun Li from Honor of Kings, recording our shooting time among outdoor rocks. The Smoke of Partings outfits have a strong traditional Chinese style charm in terms of both color scheme and accessory details. To recreate this in-game model feel, we did extensive preparation for costumes, makeup, and props. The braided long black hair paired with a red round-bead hairpin forms a sharp contrast of warm and cool tones against the other cosplayer's blue and white short hair. The props in our hands—whether it's the massive sword with a subtle curve or the staff decorated with teal leaf-like ornaments—all look exceptionally substantial when the camera focuses on them in the real environment.
Choosing a natural valley filled with gray rocks for the shoot was intended to use real outdoor gravel and greenery to create an excellent visual contrast with the xianxia-style costumes of Smoke of Partings, which are dominated by white, black, and gold. The sunshine on the day of the shoot was amazing; beams of light filtered through gaps in the woods and scattered across the rocks, creating a naturally dappled light and shadow. This lighting effect is actually quite difficult to control, and we spent a lot of time on early metering, but fortunately, the final bokeh and halos perfectly enhanced that hazy, dreamy atmosphere.
Although Li Xin usually gives off a single-minded vibe in the game as if he 'only has eyes for defense towers,' in this set of duo close-ups, we deliberately captured their close profiles and low-angle shots. Whether holding an umbrella while gazing at each other on the rocks or lying side by side looking at the sky, we hoped to convey that sense of mutual reliance and bond between the characters. Because the terrain was quite rugged during the shoot, various lifting and leaning poses heavily tested our core strength, and the weapons in our hands added quite a bit of difficulty in maintaining balance.
The completion of this work wouldn't have been possible without the wonderful performances of the two cosplayers. Youjia-laoshi and Changchang-laoshi demonstrated strong expressiveness in front of the lens, instantly capturing the core of the characters whether in a cool or gentle state. Releasing this Duo Cosplay set just in time for Valentine's Day is a fittingly well-timed romance. As a side note, after seeing this look, I truly hope that Smoke of Partings can return to the shop soon, giving more players and enthusiasts a chance to revisit this classic skin combination. From props to makeup, every single detail required repeated adjustments, and I hope the texture of this Outdoor location photography does justice to this excellent character design.
