This time, the Xiao Qiao I'm cosplaying blends Chinese-style and Lolita elements. To match the garden background, I specially picked out a pink-themed dress. The structure of the entire outfit is actually quite complex, featuring an inner layer with a petticoat, layered outside with a white sheer gauze skirt edged in lace, and an outermost pink overskirt featuring silver geometric patterns. The skirt hem is made of multi-layered ruffles spliced together, creating a wonderful arc when spinning or jumping. To maintain the fluffiness of the skirt hem, the inner petticoat was chosen in a relatively stiff material. The dress body is adorned with three-dimensional flowers and golden chain tassels, and the back ribbons were deliberately chosen in a lightweight chiffon material, which flutters up with the slightest breeze or movement. Since the ribbons are quite long, care must be taken not to trip over them when jumping, while also utilizing their lightness to enhance the dynamism of the frame.
The wig was chosen in a light pink-white shade with a slight wave treatment, styled into double buns on both sides, decorated with peach blossom and cherry blossom hair ornaments of varying sizes. The hair accessories are not particularly light, and paired with the golden hairpins (buyao), they produce a slight clinking sound when walking, but when moving, the swaying tassels make the frame look very lively. In terms of makeup, to get closer to the character's youthful and cute feel, the eyeshadow color was deepened, individual distinct false eyelashes were applied, paired with large-diameter pink contact lenses, and a quite prominent pink blush was swept across the cheeks. A glossy lip tint was chosen for the lips, making the overall makeup look more translucent.
The shooting location was chosen in a Jiangnan classical garden, featuring rockeries, lotus ponds, and ancient pavilions. Holding a pink round fan with floral decorations on the fan surface that echoes the hair ornaments, when striking poses, using the fan to partially cover the cheek or chest can increase the layering of the frame. The lower body is paired with opaque white stockings and black Mary Jane shoes, where the white pom-pom on the shoe toe adds a cute touch, and the heel height is moderate, allowing me to stand stably during jumping actions. The texture of the white stockings under the sunlight is exceptionally good; it is recommended to choose opaque types when shooting outdoors in daylight for a clearer on-camera effect.
The hardest part of the shooting process was capturing dynamic moments because the skirt hem is very large, requiring continuous spinning and jumping. For instance, in the moon gate scene, when jumping across the threshold, one must control core strength well while paying attention to the spread shape of the skirt hem and the posture of both feet, otherwise it's very easy to end up with ruined photos showing distorted expressions or uncoordinated movements. The shots by the water used dry ice to create a smoke effect, aiming to build an ethereal and fairy-like ambiance, but because we had to coordinate with the lighting and smoke density, plus the composition of the water reflection, it wasted a lot of shutter clicks. To showcase the dress details and leg lines, I also tried posing while leaning against the stone railing; the texture of the white stockings under natural light is great, and paired with the black shoes, it also anchors the overall color tone. Overall, I love this styling very much; it combines classical and dreamy elements just right, and the pairing of clothing and props is also very complete.
