On the final day of the Azur Lane 2026 Shanghai Cool Festival, I finally presented Connie's (Z52) look in its entirety. This costume actually demands immense attention to detail: the high-gloss sheen of the black patent-leather halter top looked stunning under studio strobes, and to accentuate that tactile contrast, I paired it with a sheer white gossamer outer drape. While moving or sitting, the ethereal lightness of the tulle and the structured rigidity of the patent leather formed a gorgeous dialogue between materials. The red bunny-ear headpiece and black-and-red gloves are crucial in capturing her signature traits; I also incorporated black strapping elements along the legs and arms, which, combined with white pantyhose (White stockings) and red-and-white platform sneakers, balanced beach-resort refreshment with unmistakable canonical identity.
For makeup, honoring her anime aesthetic, I swept reddish-pink eyeshadow across a wide gradient, deepening the outer corners and lower lash lines. Paired with red contact lenses and crimson lip tint, it gave the facial expression a lively, refreshed glow. Styling the hair took substantial prep as well: the twin tails needed symmetrical height, and flat-ironing individual locks ensured the crimson streak highlights emerged organically on camera while maintaining airy volume in the bangs so they wouldn't stick flat to the forehead.
Because we were shooting on the convention floor set, the background featured blue-and-white curved structures and cool-toned LED strips alongside wooden-framed striped deckchairs, fitting the Cool Festival's summer theme effortlessly. Mindful of the crop-top design, I avoided rigid standing postures, engaging my core to accentuate bodily curves. Sitting in the deckchair with legs crossed effectively elongated the leg lines, emphasizing the texture of the White stockings (White stockings) and overall silhouette. In standing stances, gently touching the headwear or lightly draping the sheer cover-up kept gestures natural while maintaining open shoulder and back lines for fluid neck contours.
Reuniting with Bichen after several months was exciting, but our tight schedule meant wrapping after only a handful of shots, which was a bit of a pity. To maximize keepers within limited time, I focused on expression control—flashing bright smiles and playful glances to embody her spirited charm. The hall lighting was relatively bright, and patent leather naturally reflects glare, so angling carefully was essential to avoid blown-out specular highlights while preserving shadowed seam details. In busy floor spaces, I used the deckchair's backrest for foreground framing or sat along the chair's edge to introduce depth. When we shoot again next time, we'll definitely schedule more time to explore diverse sets and angles for a full, satisfying set of official photos.
