[Xiao Qiao Cosplay] Honor of Kings Manga Sorceress: Frozen Moments Under the Magic Starlight

The finished photos for this Manga Sorceress set are finally organized and ready today. These were shot on-site at the anime convention, where both the lighting and spatial conditions were excellent. The final results basically met my expectations. Today, I mainly want to share the details of replicating this styling and my specific feelings during the shoot.

The core of this styling lies in the concrete presentation of the Manga Sorceress theme. The wig was custom-made in a light blue with a subtle pearl-gloss effect, styled into an updo on top and adorned with white star-flower decorations and a dark bow accessory, which displays an impressive light-transmitting texture under the illumination. The bangs and side locks were treated softly, framing the face beautifully without looking bulky. The makeup focuses on a clear and energetic path, with the eye makeup emphasizing eye brightness and circle lens color matching, allowing her overall expression to reveal that innocent yet mysterious temperament characteristic of the character.

The fit of the outfit upon wearing is exceptionally flattering to the figure. The main body utilizes a color-blocking scheme of white, deep blue, and light purple. The chest bowknot and halterneck design are the visual focal points of this costume. The fabric tailoring is highly precise, and paired with the off-the-shoulder design, it showcases the shoulder and neck lines beautifully. To achieve a better texture, a certain stiffness was built into the deep blue areas of the costume, ensuring that the silhouette of the coat won't collapse even in windless environments. The wide lantern-sleeve covers are separate pieces with a small amount of shaping mesh inside to maintain a natural fluffy curve. The wrists are finished with black half-arm guards and purple faceted decorations, making the details relatively complete. The bottom is a spliced, overlapping white tulle short skirt, offering a great sense of layering, and its moderate length balances lightness with convenience of movement.

That massive plush wand prop is absolutely the highlight of the entire look. When I first saw the design draft, I thought it would just be a standard-sized prop, but once I got my hands on it, I realized how solid and well-made it truly is. The lime-green cartoon smiley face at the top is exceptionally lively, and the orange spiral patterns on the shaft and the plant structures at the base are highly accurate. Although holding this wand for long periods makes my hands incredibly sore, I have to admit it adds a powerful element of whimsical fantasy to the overall styling. I specifically added several floating starlight special effects near the purple flowers and yellow stars on the wand to echo the magical atmosphere in the background.

Regarding the environment and shooting, we intentionally chose an exhibition hall with a skylight and multiple point light sources at the top. The alignment of my gaze with the wand in the first photo and the reaching-out motion in the third photo were both pre-planned with the photographer. To enhance the overall brightness of the frame, a black studio light equipped with a grid was used on the side for fill-in lighting—that is the light stand you see in the background—which provided very soft side-backlighting. It hit the blue hair and the white fabric on the shoulders, creating a beautiful rim light that made my skin look incredibly even and bright in front of the lens. In post-processing, we mainly synthesized the star effects; the density and sizes of the purple, light blue, and lime-green stars scattered across the frame were adjusted repeatedly to maintain a clean sense of layering amid the busy background, preventing them from overpowering the visual focus of the subject.

Let me add a bit about the synergy with the photographer during the shoot. To capture those floating starlight special effects and the overall atmosphere, we tried different combinations of shutter speed and aperture multiple times. In the end, we went with a large aperture to blur the background and emphasize the character, while preserving the outlines of the distant spotlights, giving the entire frame not only a dreamlike quality but also a realistic depth of field. The wand prop actually has a very unstable center of gravity, so we put a lot of effort into stabilizing its direction during posing to ensure it displayed its playful cartoon look naturally without appearing stiff due to any uncoordinated hand placements. During this process, the photographer's patient communication and fine-tuning made a huge difference.

Overall, I am highly satisfied with the final result of this Manga Sorceress set. The combination of the plush wand and starlight effects delivered a great visual contrast. Though putting it on was exhausting, the final photos prove that polishing these details was completely worth it. During the shoot, photographer friends at the venue were extremely supportive, helping us adjust equipment and postures. I am so happy to leave these frames at this convention, finally bringing out the character's overall temperament, and I hope to have the chance to shoot more diverse scene combinations in the future.
