The weather was scorching hot at the Zhanjiang Comic Convention on July 11, but waking up early for makeup and styling for this Honor of Kings Daji Maid outfit was completely worth it. To be honest, I don't usually play Honor of Kings much, but the moment I saw the design concept for this outfit, I was instantly captivated. The blue, white, and pink color scheme is so fresh and lively that I immediately decided to arrange this Daji cosplay.
Let's talk about the styling approach first. For the wig, I picked a vibrant pink short wavy cut, trimming it with layered texture, slightly thinning the bangs, and pinning a dainty white ribbon hair clip on the side. The headpiece is the soul of the entire look: fluffy pink-and-white animal ears were added to both sides of the white ruffled bonnet, shaped with internal wire to make the ears stand up three-dimensionally. Blue satin ribbons wrapped along the bonnet's brim, echoing the colors of the dress. The main body of the costume is a bright blue corset waist tied with an oversized pink ribbon bow across the chest, with extensive white ruffles sewn along the neckline and detached sleeve cuffs—the rich, tiered textures photographed gorgeously under the lights. To enhance the overall refinement, I also got custom glitter nail art embellished with 3D rhinestones and floral accents.
The shoot during the convention went very smoothly. The photographer was fantastic at finding angles, utilizing the cool-toned blue ambient lighting of the venue to create a striking warm-cool contrast with the costume. For pose direction, I strove to convey Daji's playful yet subtly sly charm—such as resting clenched fists alongside my cheeks, curving my fingers into cat paws, or posing with an L-gesture, all to make the body language more expressive. Because the skirt features tiered layers of lace and pleats, seated and squatting poses required extra care to spread the skirt hem out gradually to avoid creating harsh creases. Before every click of the shutter, I checked that the white lapels hadn't creased and that the small pink pouch with a cartoon face on the waist wasn't obscured.
Although I'm not an active gamer, throughout preparing this cosplay, I did plenty of homework to grasp the character's personality traits so I could project genuine emotion before the lens. In terms of makeup, blue contact lenses were the soul; the eye makeup deepened facial definition, accompanied by sweeping pink blush across the cheeks and a soft pink lip tint to ensure a clean, luminous finish. Shuttling from outdoor scenes to indoor halls took considerable touch-up and wig-brushing time; high heat makes wigs prone to frizz, so keeping wig conditioner spray and a comb on hand is essential.
I met many fellow cosplayers at the Zhanjiang Comic Convention this time, exchanging experiences regarding fabric selection, prop crafting, and post-production photography. A complete cosplay work—from concept and trial makeup to the final photo set—demands tremendous devotion, but seeing the ideal outcome captured in the photos makes all exhaustion vanish into thin air. The tailoring and color coordination of this Maid outfit are genuinely adorable, granting me a wonderfully fulfilling day at the convention.
