[Kyoyama Kazusa cosplay] Blue Archive: Changchun Nanxili Convention Photos

The convention photo series from Changchun Nanxili is finally here! Taking on Kyoyama Kazusa from Blue Archive involved a prep cycle that ran a bit longer than expected, from costume selection down to the final shoot.

Starting with the wardrobe: the foundation is a black form-fitting bodysuit designed with side waist and midriff cutouts, featuring metal buckles and leather harness straps that lean into a functional techwear vibe. The detached black patent leather sleeve covers serve as an undeniable highlight, lined in deep purple that reveals a flash of color whenever my arms lift. While patent leather catches brilliant specular highlights on camera, it retains body heat heavily during shoots and wrinkles easily during broad movement, demanding constant vigilance to keep the surface smooth. The oversized pink bow on the chest creates striking chromatic contrast against the black choker. On top, the cat ears and hovering halo form the soul of the look—the halo was fitted with internal LED strip lighting, glowing boldly under cool studio strobes.

For hair and makeup, to capture her aura, I wore pink cosmetic contact lenses paired with pink-toned eyeshadow, accompanied by winged eyeliner and lengthened lashes. The hair is her iconic blunt-bang bob, trimmed with dense volume and accented with a geometric triangular clip on the left. To anchor the floating halo prop, we cross-fastened invisible bobby pins with clear monofilament wire inside the wig mesh; this meticulous prep kept the halo completely steady even during deep squats and jumps. I also applied long press-on nails to harmonize with the overall styling.

Posing was choreographed around feline characteristics. The crouch in Figure 1 with forward-reaching cat paws required collapsing my rear leg fully while balancing on the ball of the front foot, leaning my torso forward for balance. Figure 2's single-leg stance placed my entire weight onto the right leg, extending the left foot with an arched instep to elongate the visual lines of the black stockings and high heels. Figure 3 captured a dynamic interactive snapshot close to the lens—mimicking cat paws while leaning forward—an angle requiring precise facial lighting where our photographer used a softbox for side rim light to define soft cheek shadows and facial contours.

The focus of this shoot lay in body language and fabric textures. The open layout at Changchun Nanxili provided a muted grey backdrop that complemented the black-and-pink contrast. To capture natural kinetic moments, the photographer fired burst sequences while I continually verified harness alignments and thigh-high stocking heights. Holding these high-tension postures tested core endurance, especially in heels where calf muscles remained continuously flexed to preserve defined lines.

Embodying Kazusa meant searching for that sweet spot balancing cool detachment with feline cheekiness, channeled through subtle gaze shifts and relaxed posture extensions. Selecting the final frames with the best composition and tension preserved both the glossy patent leather reflections and the texture of the black stockings. Post-shoot cleanup meant a wig full of hairspray and wiping down the patent leather—the unvarnished reality behind cosplay photography. Although exhausting, seeing the light, shadow, and tactile textures unite made every preparation worthwhile.
