[Gokou Ruri Cosplay] Oreimo's Kuroneko: Braving the Scorching Sun to Finish This Sizzling Photoshoot

Wrapping up this Gokou Ruri Cosplay photoshoot in sweltering heat, I was honestly so hot I almost passed out earlier. Only after catching my breath did I recover, and I definitely need a good shower tonight to cool down. Word is tomorrow will be even hotter, so getting this done today was a win. Even though the process was an exhausting mess, I personally really like the final photos we picked.

Initially, I planned to shoot more full-body photos to showcase the complete skirt hem and accessories, but staying outdoors was simply unbearable, so we had to rush indoors for close-ups. The wig this time is long straight purple hair with blunt bangs at the front, and those black Cat ears on top are the true soul of the whole look. Beyond the wig, the black-and-white lace dress has several layers; the neckline features white lace trim complemented by a black bow tie and choker, while the purple rose on the chest mirrors my hair color perfectly. Although the air conditioner was blasted on maximum during the shoot, wearing such heavy fabric under studio lights still felt like being inside a sauna.

Prepping the makeup beforehand required care: pale purple contacts gave the gaze an ethereal look, and I deliberately shifted the eyeshadow and blush toward pinkish tones, which, paired with a slightly melancholy expression, boosted the character fidelity. Aligning with her quirks as a Moe anime girl, the focus was placed heavily on hand gestures. Posing cat-paw gestures for so long actually left my wrists and fingers sore, but nailing the right angle and eye contact was essential—later, friends joked that my cat claws looked amazingly realistic. Indoor lighting was fairly flat, so throughout the shoot, I had to keep angling my face to catch highlights from the overhead lights.

We shot for about an hour until the heat became unbearable, and my friend quickly snapped a few final shutter clicks as an emergency wrap. Looking through the set, the most spot-on expression came from the shot with both fists clenched in front of my chest—leaning forward and staring straight into the lens created an imposing presence. The large expanse of white lace across the chest and the thin blue ribbons peeking out from both sleeves kept the visual focus tightly centered. This Japanese style gothic outfit is really unforgiving with posture; you have to keep your back completely straight to properly support the collar and the rose. Even though the heat totally drained my energy, I'm quite pleased with the playful yet aloof vibe captured in the photos.
