[Reisa Uzawa cosplay] The Rocket Launcher-Wielding Magical Girl: A True Kivotos Specialty

A Magical Girl cosplay holding a pink RPG—gripping that giant rocket launcher in my hands was the moment I truly understood what a 'Kivotos specialty' means.

The prop itself was by no means light. The oversized pink bow and conical rocket tip serve as the visual center of gravity for the entire magic wand. Navigating the crowded convention floor with it required not only arm strength, but also constant vigilance to avoid bumping into passersby's backpacks.

For the wig, I styled light purple twin-tails with cleanly trimmed straight bangs, paired with the white orbital ring-and-halo headpiece on top for exceptional fidelity. To secure the twin-tails firmly, numerous hidden hairpin clips were built into the inner wig cap, and I spent about half an hour with a curling iron before heading out to achieve that fluffy, voluminous curl.

The core outfit consists of a blue-violet cropped capelet adorned with her signature chest bow and circular emblem. The white top underneath features intricate pleating and gathering to add three-dimensional depth to the flat fabric. The pleated miniskirt has a white base spliced with blue-violet panels on the sides, finished with flowing ribbons extending from the back of the waist. The capelet was crafted from structured neoprene (space cotton) to maintain that cloud-like puffy silhouette, while the white skirt used a heavyweight, dense cotton fabric with excellent drape so it wouldn't crumple into a mess while walking.

The purple thigh-high striped stockings are an absolute eye-catcher in both close-ups and full-body shots. To echo the Magical Girl theme, I specifically chose blue high heels with small white wings and star charms attached to the heels, which swayed gently with every step.

On the day of the expo, the shooting took place on the outdoor open plaza outside the venue, paved with grey-and-white square flagstones. The afternoon golden hour was stunning, casting warm, slanted rays across the square and enveloping the entire frame in a golden rim light. The photographer took bursts of shots without over-editing in post, perfectly preserving the soft, natural glow. Since other cosplayers were shooting on the plaza, the photographer stayed semi-crouched to shoot low-angle perspectives to avoid background clutter, which also accentuated the dynamic tension of the body.

In Blue Archive, Reisa Uzawa inherently carries a quirky, comical charm, so I deliberately avoided overly serious expressions, opting instead for mischievous and playful poses—like flashing a peace sign while shouldering the RPG one-handed, or holding the prop up to the lens like a telescope, fully channeling this energetic character. Cosplaying a character with comedic traits truly tests your commitment to the bit. Passersby glancing at the oversized weapon are mostly amused, but as long as you maintain earnest dedication in character, they see the spark and vitality in your portrayal.

Although the outfit appears voluminous due to the capelet and skirt puff, the cinched waist and the visual elongation from the stockings cosplay keep the overall silhouette slender. Wearing gloves slightly hindered finger dexterity when gripping props, but fortunately, the poses didn't require overly delicate finger movements.

Bringing such an absurdly fun Magical Girl cosplay concept to life at an anime expo definitely required getting into the mindset. But the moment I saw the final convention photos, all the heavy lifting and exhaustion from navigating the crowded convention vanished. This pure convention photos log freezes that sun-drenched, joyful afternoon in time.
