[Hoshino Ruby cosplay] Oshi no Ko: 1:1 Recreation of the Siblings

The core purpose of this shoot was to create a structured Magazine style feel, and the typography artist's skills were truly incredible, achieving a 1:1 ratio and composition recreation matching the original art. When designing the outfit and makeup styling, our top priority was highlighting the character's iconic elements, such as the numerous pink stars, forehead hair clips, and the red accents around the eyes.

For specific styling, I chose a black dress detailed with pink straps and lace trim, paired with black mesh gloves and Black stockings. The combination of black dress and Black stockings highlighted the figure best in this outfit; wearing Black stockings was firstly to recreate the character's signature style, and secondly to flatter leg lines during seated poses and low-angle upward shots. The pose seated on the white high stool was specially designed by the stylist—paired with an upward perspective, it sharpened the overall presence, perfectly fitting the bold stage aura of an idol.

Coordinating the duo version with my partner (in Aqua Hoshino cosplay) genuinely took plenty of effort. Beyond looking convincing individually, portraying that subtle "sibling" connection when together made positioning and eye-line focus crucial. For instance, in one shot where I stood in the foreground while he stood behind, it captured that layered aesthetic from the original illustration. Given the role I portrayed, I focused on conveying a mysterious and alluring presence in the duo compositions, whereas my partner kept facial expressions taut to exude a colder, cooler demeanor.

Lighting on the day was quite complex; preventing light from washing out the folds of the black dress, the sheen of the Black stockings, and the blonde gradient of the wig posed a real challenge. In post-production retouching, we deliberately preserved authentic skin texture without excessive smoothing, while the layout design faithfully recreated the typography visuals of Japanese magazines with dense text and large pink logos. Thanks to the typography artist's dedication, the final photos match the original anime and visual assets with incredible precision—some inner pages could easily serve as proper mobile wallpapers. This Magazine style aesthetic, interweaving retro flair with dreamy charm, truly maximized the character's appeal from Oshi no Ko.
