[Hoshino Ruby Cosplay] The Kirakira Radiance on Stage, Oshi no Ko Descends Upon the Convention

Putting on this red-and-blue color-blocked stage performance costume adorned with golden tassels instantly gets me into Hoshino Ruby's highly energetic state. I tried my best to style the wig into a natural high twin-tail hairstyle. The pink gradient at the hair ends presents an excellent luster under the indoor venue's lighting, and adding delicate blue-and-pink color-blocked small hair accessories on both sides of the head improves the visual balance of the details. For the makeup part, I intentionally used a reddish-pink palette instead of the conventional warm brown to echo the character's eye color; the reddish-brown colored contacts combined with enhanced under-eye blush beautifully create that lively and slightly playful idol complexion.

The design of this costume is incredibly rich in layers. The upper body features tiered white ruffles, paired with a navy-blue stand-up collar and golden five-pointed star decorations, offering a touch of playful childhood vibe along with a uniform feel. What surprised me pleasantly was the design of the cuffs and shoulders—the pink puffy sleeves with striped details on the edges make arm movements look sharp and graceful. The lower body consists of beautifully staggered layered skirts, where a blue-and-pink plaid fabric is layered over a white tiered skirt. Moreover, a lightweight shiny laser-sequin mesh yarn is added to one side of the hemline; this material generates a dreamy halo under the photo's light and shadow, boosting the dynamic feel.

During the actual shooting process, the ceiling lighting in the convention venue was actually quite flat. Although there were regularly arranged spotlights, highlighting the character still required professional fill light equipment. Therefore, we utilized large softboxes and portable speedlights on-site to shape the three-dimensional depth of facial contours. To showcase the character's stage energy, I tried various body movements, such as the pose in the picture where one leg is slightly raised and one hand extends toward the camera. Controlling the center of gravity in this pose presents a certain difficulty, requiring the body core to stay tight so that the entire stature looks upright without being stiff, which in turn gives the skirt hem and laser mesh a natural flowing grace as if brushed by the wind in this convention photography showcase.

The black lace-up platform Martin boots paired with the lower body are a prop I personally love. They not only visually elongate the leg lines, making the overall proportions better match the feel of an anime character, but the soles are also heavy enough to provide exceptionally stable support when standing still or lightly jumping to strike a pose. However, pairing platform boots with a short skirt poses a certain test to personal balance, especially when turning around in a crowd, where one must be careful not to let the skirt hem trip themselves up.

Being able to complete this shoot despite the noisy environment of the convention relied heavily on the tacit cooperation with the photographer. From smoothing the wrinkles on the collar to adjusting the position of the plaid skirt, every single detail needed to be confirmed repeatedly. When putting on this outfit, that idol aura of wanting to master the stage with a determined gaze naturally emerges. I am not simply mimicking an image, but trying my best to present that characteristic kirakira radiance and confidence unique to the character.
