[March 7th (The Hunt) cosplay] Missed out on Anime Convention Tickets, Leading to an Unexpectedly High-Quality Outdoor Shoot Journey

I tried three times to snag Day 1 tickets for the CPSP anime convention, but after the loading wheel spun, the screen still displayed 'Sold Out.' So I simply redirected my plans for the day and headed to photographer Danhuang's place for an outdoor shoot. This time, I cosplayed March 7th (The Hunt) from Honkai: Star Rail.

Let's first talk about the details of this costume. In reality, wearing this outfit is far more complex than it looks. The main palette of the top is red and white, featuring a structured, crisp collar with an inner lining. The most eye-catching elements are the large golden four-leaf clover-shaped emblem on the chest and the gold ruby-accented brooch pinned to the collar. These metallic pieces have wonderful tactile quality and reflect studio and natural light brilliantly, exuding a distinct, delicate Chinese-style elegance. The shoulders feature built-in shoulder pads; without them, the silhouette wouldn't hold its shape and could make the posture look rounded, so it truly demands great poise from the cosplayer.

Next is the wig: a bright pink shade topped with two distinct bun-shaped odango buns. Styling this wig heavily relies on firm holding spray, and the length of the bangs requires precise attention. Since it was an outdoor shoot where any gust of wind could easily mess it up, I used plenty of hairspray during styling, while adding subtle soft curls to the tips.

As for the makeup, I wore a pair of light blue contact lenses that offered great clarity and translucence. The eye makeup was kept clean, with the main focus on the lower lash line accented with glitter to make the eyes look brighter and more expressive. The blush was applied rather generously, as pink-themed characters naturally call for that vibrant, energetic glow. For the lips, I opted for a soft rose-bean-paste shade to give a healthy complexion.

Walking outside in March 7th (The Hunt)'s outfit naturally turns heads. To passersby, it might seem novel, but walking in full gear is certainly no easy feat—especially with all those metal ornaments swaying around, requiring constant care to avoid snagging.

The shooting experience itself was quite fun. Danhuang's shooting tempo is brisk, prompting me to strike energetic poses—like flashing double peace signs or leaning against a wall pretending to look cool. With silly internet memes running through my head, the captured expressions actually came across much more relaxed and natural. Since we skipped the crowded convention hall, there were far fewer people around, allowing us to take our time selecting spots. For example, inside train carriages and along hallways, utilizing natural ambient light brought out the authentic texture of the red-and-white fabrics, producing gorgeous color transitions under dynamic lighting.

Since it wasn't a crowded convention setting, I'd like to share a few tips on shooting this kind of pink-palette character. First, choosing the right colored contacts is crucial; clear, luminous blue lenses instantly lend an innocent, lively gaze. Second, the wig: especially with such an expanse of pink hair, it must be washed and blown dry the day before, and generously sprayed with setting mist before heading out, otherwise it loses all structural volume. During shooting, because the collar stands quite high, it can easily make the chin look shorter, so subtly lifting the chin or angling the head slightly down toward the camera can work wonders.

I've actually wanted to cosplay this character for a long time, though I previously worried that pulling off all-pink hair might feel out of place. Yet once the full makeup and styling came together, it felt unexpectedly fitting. Although I couldn't make it to the CPSP anime convention today, doing an outdoor shoot instead provided a quieter, more focused creative space. A few passersby even came up to ask if I was cosplaying a Honkai character, and chatting with them was genuinely heartwarming. I selected a few raw shots from today to share; the combination of red, white, and pink truly holds up under natural light, and I'm very satisfied with the finish of both the makeup and costume. It was a wonderful experience, and if similar opportunities arise in the future, I look forward to exploring this style again.
