[Yukino Yukinoshita Cosplay] Recreating the Coldness and Tenderness from My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU in a Pure White Studio

Lighting in a white studio truly tests the texture of makeup and costume. This time, I specifically chose a light blue knit cardigan paired with a white one-piece dress, topped with a dark blue bow tie, steering the overall color palette toward a clean and fresh look. The wig is long, straight black hair. To recreate her iconic temperament, I applied cool tones to the eye makeup and paired it with gray-blue contact lenses, hoping to capture Yukino's vibe of being "seemingly cold but actually delicate." During the shoot, the photographer kept guiding my emotions. The pose in image one with hands clasped together was actually meant to express an introverted sense of defensiveness, whereas the action of touching the hat in image two felt much more relaxed. Personally, I prefer the slightly playful state in image two.

The lighting in white studio photography is very flat without extra shadows to interfere, which actually places a higher demand on the three-dimensional depth of facial features and the layering of the outfit. The creases of the shirt, the ribs of the cardigan, and the layers of the skirt hem are all magnified under the high-key light. For this cosplay sharing project, it's often more than just putting on an Anime-style fashion outfit; it's about getting close to the character's core through hair, makeup, and expressions. The character Yukino Yukinoshita has a very distinct personality in My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU; she is independent and clear-headed, yet possesses a hidden softness. Therefore, when posing, I tried my best to avoid overly dramatic movements, using subtle body language to convey this sense of contrast.

This time, we shot two different compositions: one static and one dynamic. The pure white background of the studio gave me immense room to express myself. Without the interference of scenic elements, the audience's eyes focus entirely on the person. I also experimented with different angles and found that looking slightly up at the camera with downcast eyes indeed creates that aloof yet captivating temperament. In terms of hair and makeup, managing the wig took a long time, especially ensuring the bangs and side strands fell naturally without looking stiff. The choice of contact lenses was also crucial; lighter irises make the gaze look more transparent, creating a stark contrast with the dark hair. Overall, the shoot went smoothly, and the final results achieved the exact cold elegance I wanted. I hope this clean, high-quality work allows everyone to see a part of my understanding of the character, serving as an expression slowly discovered through light and shadow.
