[Yao Guang cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail's Ice-Blue Silhouette: Live Convention Photos

This set of photos was taken at the NCE convention. I was cosplaying Yao Guang from Honkai: Star Rail. Many friends asked me why I chose this character; honestly, I just love her cool and slightly tsundere qualities. Sitting on the high stool in this outfit really gave off that "Don't make Boss Yao laugh" vibe.

Let's talk about how this gear felt to wear. The top features a white halterneck design, which is one of the visual focal points of the entire look. The collar area has a very complex structure, layered with multi-tiered silver metal chains and pendants. To prevent it from looking bloated, I put a lot of thought into managing the drape of the chains, making sure they wouldn't swing wildly while walking, yet still presenting a naturally scattered layer under the lens. The butterfly-shaped decoration at the waist is blue and white, echoing the skirt's main color scheme and visually acting as a corset.

The most significant part is this blue fur shawl. To be honest, this kind of fur is a double-edged sword at a busy convention. On one hand, its royal blue color and rich texture are highly photogenic, carrying the character's aura and filling the negative space of the upper body. On the other hand, it's really hot inside indoor venues, and because of its volume, I had to be extremely careful when moving through the crowded convention halls to avoid brushing against other visitors or exhibition booths.

The high-slit long skirt of the lower body is key to creating a long-leg visual effect. The skirt material has a slightly rigid, glossy finish, paired with a white serrated trim along the edges, making the overall silhouette very dimensional. Especially in the standing shot, where the skirt draped down, the blue gradient waterdrop patterns and tiny pink flower embellishments were very eye-catching. To showcase the skirt's design to the fullest, I deliberately adjusted my leg angles in the sitting pose to create an elongated visual flow with the high-slit lines and the silver strappy heels. The shoes themselves were a bit of a challenge; I chose this multi-strap design for maximum detail, but stepping on the convention's concrete floors for a long time really made the soles of my feet ache.

Regarding makeup and hair, the white hair with blue highlights and pale blue contact lenses recreated the character's ethereal quality. The lighting at a convention is usually chaotic, with various strong lights and truss stands overhead, which places high demands on a clean makeup look. I had to constantly use a powder compact to touch up reflections on my T-zone and nose. For the shoot, we specifically chose a high stool with metal legs to echo the metal chains on my outfit. Since the background had quite a few passersby, resting chairs, and low displays, the photographer used a wide aperture and a telephoto lens to compress the depth of field, blurring the background to lock the focus entirely on my posture.

Come to think of it, wearing this outfit was a real test of balance. The metal chains on the upper body and the long skirt hem of the lower body both needed careful organizing, or else they could easily look messy when standing up or walking. To capture great convention photos, I had to maintain the character's posture at all times, including the finger tension when hands were suspended, and the curve of my legs. These small details may seem insignificant, but they determine whether the overall vibe feels right when frozen in a photo.

Cosplaying cool-toned characters is always a challenge because it requires highly restrained expression management—no exaggerated smiles, but the gaze must remain lively. My experience at the NCE convention was wonderful. Although the venue was very crowded, the moment I put on this outfit and stood in front of the camera, the immersion brought by the character quickly took over, and the noisy surroundings were naturally isolated by the lens. This process of bringing a 2D character to life in reality through the coordination of outfit, makeup, hair, poses, and the cosplay photography team is precisely what makes Cosplay so charming.
