For the Friday session of Fan Expo Canada, catching the softest morning natural light, I was already stationed on the terrace outside the venue before 7:00 AM. This time, I cosplayed Iuno; the Blue twin-tails look stood out remarkably outdoors, but it also demanded extreme care and maintenance. To preserve the curve of the bangs and sideburns, I sprayed three or four layers of hairspray alone. Whenever the wig was ruffled by the wind, it had to be smoothed out immediately with a comb; otherwise, it would look frizzy on camera.
In terms of makeup, I deliberately enhanced the depth of the eye makeup, blending blue and pink eyeshadow to complement the character's cool-toned palette, while keeping subtle color in the blush and lip makeup to avoid a flat facial appearance under harsh light. The costume is rich in details—the armor plating on the chest and metal accessories around the waist looked stunning under the sun, though they certainly carried noticeable weight. That massive halo prop mounted on my back was the centerpiece of this shoot. Assembled late into the early morning the night before, securing the heavier blue inner material onto the golden outer ring took considerable effort. Transporting the prop required immense care to avoid scratches and chipped paint. On set, organically integrating the prop with my poses became the greatest challenge: standing while holding the ring with one hand required balance and extension, while seated poses utilized the ring as a framing element to center visual focus on the character.
The lower half of this outfit features a modular, split design; the straps and metallic thigh ring on my right thigh beautifully accentuated my leg lines when seated. Paired with a white blanket, it not only created a barrier against the cold, rough concrete ground, but also kept the color palette clean and pristine. The photographer had an excellent eye for angles, utilizing urban skyscrapers as the backdrop. The cool tones of the glass curtain walls echoed my blue hair, delivering a visual aesthetic where modern architecture seamlessly intertwines with a Fantasy style outfit.
The trickiest part of outdoor photography is fluctuating natural light. Under direct midday sunlight, metallic highlights easily overexposed, requiring constant adjustments to angles and reflectors. To achieve that effortless yet striking tension, I experimented with stretching out my arms, tapping lightly with fingertips, and sitting with crossed legs in front of the lens, maximizing the three-dimensional presence of both bodily curves and costume cuts.
The shooting process for these Convention photos was quite fast-paced. With heavy foot traffic at the convention, we often had to execute a sequence of poses swiftly at a specific spot. Given the costume's complexity, there was barely any time to rest in between, and the friction from high heels and leg straps left my ankles fatigued. Yet the overall atmosphere was thoroughly delightful—nearby visitors and fellow fans were so kind, occasionally pausing to watch and applaud. Looking back at the final shots, the light and shadow textures across metal and satin completely met my expectations. Bringing out Iuno's aloof yet regal presence made this convention trip totally fulfilling.
