This time, I finally shot Mirai Kuriyama from Beyond the Boundary! The classic pinkish-orange short hair with that ahoge, along with the iconic red round-rimmed glasses, instantly captures the essence of the character at first glance. For the costume, I chose a sailor-collar patchwork uniform jacket layered with an off-white knit cardigan, paired with dark tights and uniform shoes, making the overall tone closely match the slice-of-life feel of the original work.
During the shoot, we specially found two different scenes. One is a wooden bench beside withered grass in autumn/winter, utilizing the slanting afternoon backlight to create a warm yet slightly melancholy atmosphere, which beautifully fits the character's "unpleasant" yet soft-hearted temperament. The other scene switched to open concrete steps and a pedestrian overpass. Under the sunlight, I posed in a battle stance with that massive red blade; the squatting pose and the single-leg blade-lifting movement gave the frame much more dynamic tension.
This blade is a handmade prop; its surface coating reflects light remarkably well under strong illumination, and the grip feels just right, so it didn't pose much of a burden when executing the movements. During the photography session, I paid special attention to my facial expressions, trying my best to maintain that cool yet slightly tsundere look—after all, this character's cute point lies exactly in that awkward yet earnest personality.
In post-processing color grading, the translucent feel of the skin tone was preserved, and the background was slightly blurred to highlight the subject while balancing the highlights to prevent overexposure. As an attempt that places great emphasis on character accuracy, I put immense heart into everything from makeup and hair details to props and scenes. I hope to convey Mirai's stubbornness of "protecting what's important even if there is no future." It can be considered a special birthday commemoration for this Anime cosplay project.
