This time, I shot a cosplay of Nijika Ijichi from Bocchi the Rock! To faithfully recreate the image of the Big Angel of Shimokitazawa, a lot of thought went into the preparation. For the outfit, I chose her signature white dress shirt and navy blue pleated skirt. The red-and-white polka-dot bowtie at the collar was key; to keep the shirt looking crisp and sharp, I ironed it several times beforehand, and carefully smoothed out the pleats of the skirt to ensure the hem held a lovely shape whether walking or sitting. The wig was a bright golden twintail style, and the ahoge sticking out on top was the absolute soul of the look—it took repeated sculpting with hairspray to achieve the ideal silhouette, while the twintails were carefully conditioned for smooth, fluid strands. For makeup, to achieve that authentic anime feel, I wore reddish-brown colored contacts, accentuated the eye contours with elongated eyeliner, selected a lively blush tone, and kept the lips naturally soft and rosy.
The location was set along urban streets outdoors, with red-brick buildings, chain railings, and modern high-rises in the distance as the backdrop. The weather was wonderful that day; diffused natural light filtering through the clouds fell softly across my face without casting harsh shadows. The photographer made fantastic use of a wide-aperture lens, rendering the background cleanly out of focus so the viewer's gaze stayed entirely on the subject while preserving the street atmosphere. As a prop, I brought a bouquet of sunflowers—their bright yellow petals matched my wig wonderfully and reflected Nijika's sunny, cheerful personality.
In designing poses and gestures, I wanted to showcase Nijika's different sides. In the standing shots, holding the sunflowers behind my back with a slight head tilt and subtle body lean aimed to express her sweet, well-mannered, and slightly shy charm. In the photo where I'm seated on a stone bollard, legs crossed, one hand brushing hair behind my ear and the other resting the sunflowers on my lap, the pose felt completely relaxed and natural while beautifully highlighting the lines of the white calf socks (White stockings) and legs, creating an effortless everyday mood. For facial expressions, I constantly reminded myself to maintain a natural smile and gentle eyes, as Nijika is an angelic character who brings warmth and strength to everyone. Thanks to great outdoor lighting and scenic framing, the final shots turned out exceptionally fresh and crisp, capturing the vitality and gentle grace I wanted to express. I hope this slice of everyday life lets everyone feel her unique charm.
