The convention photos from this Chengdu WorldLine comic-con are finally retouched and ready. I cosplayed Cheshire from Azur Lane; crafting this black-and-white maid dress and fine-tuning its nuances took plenty of effort. For the wig, I incorporated subtle cyan-blue highlights over a silver-gray base to strictly match the canonical layering. On the makeup front, the focus fell on the cyan-blue contact lenses and a gentle wash of reddish eyeshadow blending, striving to convey that sweet, mischievous allure.

The convention shoot took place in the evening, scouted in a paved outdoor clearing with minimal foot traffic. Because the dress features generous cascades of lace and ruffles, sitting directly on the pavement would easily soil the fabric and restrict movement. As a solution, I specifically brought a circular white plush rug to lay across the floor—allowing me to execute kneeling and side-seated poses while preserving the costume's immaculate condition, with the rug's soft texture simultaneously gentling the frame's perimeter edges.

The primary hurdle in night photography lies in lighting control. To melt the background city lights into creamy, luminous bokeh while ensuring crisp facial clarity, we deployed a wide-aperture lens paired with high-power speedlights and LED fill lights. This allowed the character's silhouette and fabric weaves to be carved out cleanly against the darkness. The long black satin ribbon in hand served as a fantastic visual leading line: whether held overhead or cascading naturally, it injected fluid dynamism into the composition. Arranging a metallic silver tray and a teal-green plush doll nearby added layered depth to the backdrop, preventing the frame from feeling sparse.

In terms of posing choreography, the skirt hem is quite short, so to avoid wardrobe malfunctions while accentuating the garment's tailoring, most poses were completed on the rug. For example, in the side-seated pose, leaning my weight backward while stretching my legs forward naturally highlighted the pairing of platform heels and white stockings pantyhose, while visually elongating overall body proportions. Tilting the upper body slightly forward to accentuate the lace choker and collarbone lines struck a delicate balance, preserving her cute essence while infusing a subtle hint of sultry allure.

Convention photography is always an endurance test of stamina and patience, requiring continuous repositioning of pleated ruffles and ribbon placements. After each set, I routinely checked whether the wig had gotten disheveled or if the lace gloves had shifted. The outfit carries an abundance of accessories, making dressing and adjusting quite time-consuming; seeing the textural richness of every ruffle and lace motif rendered to perfection in the final images, however, made all the meticulous prep feel deeply worthwhile.

The greatest fulfillment of convention photo returns is that pure satisfaction of manifesting a 2D character into the real world. Though night outdoor conditions present inherent constraints, finding the right lighting and camera angles—supported by thoughtful props and the plush mat—still yields rich, atmospheric results. This shoot gave me deeper technical insights into night portrait lighting, and I look forward to exploring diverse thematic environments at upcoming conventions.
