I've finally finished sorting out this horizontal-format birthday commemorative set! Compared to vertical portraits, the widescreen framing advantage lies in embracing a much wider environment, seamlessly integrating the character into the landscape to heighten the cinematic narrative and spirit of travel. We chose Changsha Yanghu Wetland Park as our location; by late May, the outdoor heat was already noticeable, but to finish this celebratory set before her birthday, we pushed through under the blazing sun.

This classic attire of the Ashen Witch Elaina demands meticulous attention to detail. The blue-and-pink robe fabric possesses a weighty drape, requiring continuous adjustment while walking or sitting to maintain natural, elegant folds. The white inner blouse and yellow ribbon bow had to be kept pristine, and the golden star-shaped insignia on the left lapel needed precise positioning. For hair and makeup, to embody her persona, I defined the eye contours and wore grey-blue colored contacts, lending a clear, spirited glint to her gaze. The long silver-white wig tangles easily outdoors, calling for frequent combing—especially around the bangs, where layered texture had to remain airy rather than sticking flat against my forehead.

Using props greatly enhanced the interactivity in each frame. The iconic wide-brimmed hat shaded the harsh sunlight while enriching the composition, and holding the brim naturally guided the viewer's gaze. The magic wand and crimson grimoire were essential for highlighting her witch persona; browsing through the book on wooden benches or stone stairs, paired with carefully composed postures, conveyed her lively yet composed demeanor. The beauty of horizontal framing is capturing not only the blooming flowers and benches in the foreground, but also the lake, forests, Ferris wheel, and distant pavilions in the backdrop. In the flower field, shooting with a wide aperture softly blurred the cosmos in the foreground, creating a richly layered image through chromatic contrast between the subject, lush trees, and shimmering water.

For color grading, I leaned toward a luminous, refreshing Japanese fairytale aesthetic—moderating green saturation while lifting the pink and blue tones for a soft, clean palette. In dappled shade under sunlight, balancing light and shadow ensured smooth facial lighting while preserving realistic skin texture. This horizontal birthday set truly fulfilled my dream of bringing the wandering witch's journey to life.
