[Iochi Mari cosplay] Blue Archive's Gym Uniform: Frozen Moments by the Pool

Every summer, I'm used to heading over to the pool in the western suburbs for photos, and this year I chose this gym uniform for the shoot. Iochi Mari from Blue Archive is inherently an energetic character; pairing this blue-and-white athletic jacket with a bright white short-sleeve top against the sparkling blue waves of the pool creates a visual that is exceptionally clean, crisp, and uncluttered.

When standing by the pool, we didn't deliberately construct overly flashy artificial lighting for this angle, opting instead to flow with the natural afternoon light. Sunlight cascaded across the pool's surface, casting water-ripple caustics onto my body and forming gentle, natural transitions of light and shade. Truth be told, hair styling was the focal point this time. The blonde wig was carefully styled with two rounded buns, accented just right with white plush pompoms and scrunchies. The golden glittering halo headpiece was also a relatively heavy accessory; securing it in place took quite some effort, but wearing it instantly channeled the character's spirit. The White thigh-highs outfit serves as the soul of this look—under natural daylight, the white socks formed a wonderful color contrast against the off-white stone tiles of the pool deck, establishing rich visual depth.

During the shoot, I tried using the pool's stainless steel handrails to find dynamic snapshot moments. In particular, that instant turning back while standing on the steps—leaning slightly forward with hands lightly resting on the handrail, the navy-blue jacket casually draped over my shoulders just as sunlight hit my hair from the upper side—felt perfect. The Iochi Mari (Gym ver.) design prioritizes practicality with lightweight, breathable fabrics, so it didn't feel stuffy even by an outdoor pool in summer. The jacket's navy blue spliced with white raglan sleeves flattered body lines, creating a slender silhouette.

A core idea behind cosplaying Iochi Mari this time was maintaining a lived-in, everyday realism rather than forcing rigid showcase poses. For instance, sitting on the wooden decking by the poolside with legs naturally stretched out or curled up. The wooden deck texture, combined with the White thigh-highs outfit and azure water, immediately maximized the ambiance of the entire frame. What satisfies me most are the candid expressions captured here—free of forced camera pandering, reflecting instead a spontaneous, natural presence within the setting.

Shooting outdoors in the summer poses a major challenge with the heat, but playing around by the pool genuinely helped me relax. Iochi Mari inherently possesses an endearing, airheaded cuteness alongside that eye-catching halo headpiece. To faithfully recreate that large star-ring halo, I reinforced its internal structure to keep it from slipping off in the breeze or when bowing my head. Fortunately, the end result turned out wonderful.

We ran into minor hiccups during shooting—water occasionally splashing onto the skirt hem, and having to step cautiously when moving around. But isn't that precisely the most enjoyable part of on-location shoots? Authentic scenery combined with dedicated recreation breathes unique life into this cosplay. I intentionally chose the late afternoon when light and shadow are at their gentlest so pool waves wouldn't look blindingly harsh. This blue-and-white palette, paired with white stockings and a lightweight jacket, is genuinely versatile for a Pool photoshoot.

Looking back, cosplaying Blue Archive characters always brings me lighthearted joy, especially during such a bright, radiant summer season. The outcome by the pool this time—from tailoring cuts to accessory details—exceeded my expectations in accuracy. Photoshoots are an interactive process; rather than chasing a rigid, flawless stereotype, I prefer discovering points of resonance between myself and the character within the scene. The lighting, pool, breeze, and this gym uniform all came together to shape this summer pictorial.

This shoot at the western suburbs pool was not just checking off an annual tradition, but also a personal record of this summer. With water rippling in the pool and gentle breezes brushing past, the entire experience felt delightfully comfortable. I hope the crisp, refreshing spirit of summer shines through this set of photos.
