I've had this summer look of Swimsuit Shiroko for a while now, and taking advantage of this weekend, I finally brought the envisioned beach-themed scene to life. Won't you really take a bite of this watermelon in my hand? Speaking of which, this summer-infused set was actually built inside an indoor studio, but the moment my feet stepped onto the sand, combined with the warm-toned hard lighting projections, it genuinely gave the illusion of being at a real seaside beach.
Let's first talk about the character portrayed this time: Shiroko Sunaookami from Blue Archive, specifically in her Summer swimsuit form. The character's features mainly center on her iconic grayish-blue animal ears, light blue cross hairpins, and the subtle halo hovering above her head. When locking down the makeup and styling, to ensure the wolf ears looked natural and properly pressed down the wig without looking awkward, the makeup artist and I adjusted their position repeatedly. A silver-gray wig was used this time, with twintails styled slightly fluffier than usual to evoke a windblown, airy texture. The makeup wasn't deliberately heavy, primarily emphasizing depth in the eye makeup; pairing light blue contact lenses with the hair color allowed her signature cool yet focused gaze to emerge effortlessly.
For the outfit coordination, I chose this black-and-blue one-piece swimsuit. Wearing just a swimsuit might look a bit plain, so I layered a white sports jacket with blue stripes over it; rolling up the sleeves to expose the arms not only added dimension but is also the essence of Swimsuit Shiroko's look. Walking on the sand in a swimsuit and feeling the fine sand beneath bare feet was wonderful; as my toes sank into the sand surrounded by sunlit shadows, achieving such natural outdoor lighting effects in a Beach set studio photography shoot really comes down to the photographer's masterful control of light sources.
The use of props was equally crucial. The slice of watermelon held in hand was not only a prop for the summer atmosphere, but also the soul of these photos. To capture that relaxed, breezy, and slightly casual state, I made fine adjustments to the range of motion and hand posture when holding the watermelon. Rather than gripping it stiffly, letting the fingers rest naturally along the rind, matched with subtle shifts in facial expression, truly conveyed the relaxing satisfaction of enjoying watermelon in summer. The surfboard behind me and the blue cooler box beside were great supporting background elements; even the placement angle of the camp chair took thought, ensuring I could lean back naturally while beautifully showcasing leg lines and overall silhouette extension before the camera.
The entire Cosplay photography process was genuinely enjoyable because the whole team worked hard to create a refreshing, carefree summer vacation atmosphere. @一条大海参摄影工作室 did a fantastic job with the set construction: the wooden fence background, nautical elements like fishing nets and a ship's helm, along with staggered potted greenery, partitioned the space compactly while infusing it with storytelling. In post-processing, we avoided excessive retouching, preserving the high contrast of light and shadow along with raw, natural textures. Cosplay's joy lies largely in this—bringing the clarity and summer vibrancy seen in 2D characters into tangible reality through casting, styling, and scenic immersion. Even in an urban indoor Beach set studio photography session, as long as the atmosphere is right, one can still feel the ocean breeze across the images. This set is my heartfelt recreation of Shiroko Sunaookami Cosplay in her beach form, and I hope everyone viewing these photos can feel that same summer coolness and casual ease.
